LET THE RECORD REFLECT THAT A QUORUM OF THE BOARD IS PRESENT, THAT THE MEETING HAS BEEN DULY CALLED AND NOTICE OF MEETING HAS BEEN POSTED FOR THE TIME AND IN THE MANNER THAT IS REQUIRED BY LAW.

IT IS MY HONOR TO ASK THIS EVENING THAT THE WICHITA FALLS INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF TRUSTEES RECOGNIZE STUDENTS WHO RECEIVED NATIONAL MERIT COMMENDED HONORS, AS SUBMITTED AND RECOMMENDED [INAUDIBLE] SUPERINTENDENT.

OUR HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS ENTER THE NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM BY TAKING THE PSAT.

THE PSAT SERVES AS INITIAL SCREENING FOR PROGRAM APPLICANTS.

APPROXIMATELY 34,000 HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WERE MADE NATIONAL MERIT COMMENDED STUDENTS ACROSS THE NATION.

WE ARE PROUD TO HAVE FIVE RECOGNIZED IN OUR DISTRICT.

AT THIS TIME, I'LL ASK THEIR CAMPUS PRINCIPALS TO COME FORWARD AND PRESENT THEM.

EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM IS ON SOME FORM OF EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITY, AND MANY OF THEM HAVE COMPETED AT THE STATE LEVEL, AND THOSE THINGS TOO.

THEY'VE GOT A BRIGHT FUTURE AHEAD OF THEM, AND WE'RE REALLY PROUD OF THEM.

CONGRATS TO THEIR FAMILIES AS WELL.

WE ALSO HAVE AN AWARD HERE FOR ONE OF THESE STUDENTS, SHE WAS A TEXAS MUSIC SCHOLAR LAST YEAR.

THIS IS A REALLY DIFFICULT AWARD TO ACHIEVE BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO MAINTAIN STRAIGHT AS FOR EVERY SIX WEEKS THE ENTIRE SCHOOL YEAR, AND YOU HAVE TO MAKE AN ALL-REGION CHOIR, WHICH IS A HUGE FEAT IN AND OF ITSELF.

THAT AWARD WILL GO TO OLIVIA LANE.

OLIVIA, IF YOU WILL COME BACK AND GET THIS OTHER AWARD.

BUT I ASKED TO HAVE A SEAT WITH YOU, AND I HAVE NOT HEARD BACK SO I WAS WONDERING.

WHEN WE WALK INTO THESE NEW SCHOOLS, WE DON'T GET TOLD WHERE THE CLASSROOMS ARE SOMETIMES, WE DON'T GET A MAP.

WHEN WE WALK INTO THE CLASSROOMS SOMETIMES, I DON'T EVEN HAVE STUFF TO DO FOR THE KIDS BECAUSE I'M NOT GETTING MUCH STUFF.

THE BEHAVIORS LATELY TODAY.

I WAS AT ONE SCHOOLS TODAY, I WAS READY TO LEAVE AT 10 O'CLOCK.

I HAVE STUDENTS THAT WAS ARGUING WITH ME, STUDENTS WHO WERE SCREAMING ACROSS THE ROOM.

THEY JUST KEPT FLYING AROUND THE ROOM.

I DON'T KNOW HOW TO CONTROL THIS BECAUSE I'VE ASKED HIM SEVERAL TIMES TO STOP TALKING, STOP SCREAMING AND THEY WON'T LISTEN.

I ASK [NOISE], WHY DO YOU DO THIS? THEY STRAIGHT UP TOLD ME, THEY DON'T RESPECT THE SUBS.

THE SUBS ARE NOT TEACHERS.

THEY THINK THEY CAN DO WHAT THEY WANT BECAUSE THEY HAVE A SUB.

I WOULD SAY, IF Y'ALL CAN, JUST PLEASE LOOK INTO THESE SCHOOLS ON HOW THE KIDS ARE BEHAVING.

WHEN I WAS IN THE SUBSTITUTE ORIENTATION TRAINING, I DIDN'T GET TAUGHT ON HOW TO HANDLE SUCH A WAY.

I WAS LEFT IN A ROOM BY MYSELF, WITH STUDENTS FROM SPECIAL ED.

I LEARNED AFTER SCHOOL YEAR, THAT WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN.

HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW THAT WHEN WE DON'T GET TAUGHT.

IT'S JUST VERY NERVE-WRACKING TO WALK INTO SO MANY SCHOOLS AND KEEP HAVING THE SAME BEHAVIORS OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

I WAS READY TO QUIT ALL MY JOBS FOR THE REST OF THE SCHOOL YEAR, I CAN'T HANDLE THESE ANYMORE.

IF Y'ALL COULD, JUST PLEASE GO INTO THESE SCHOOLS, SEE HOW THESE KIDS ARE ACTING, IT'S NOT OKAY ANYMORE.

I HAVE KIDS ARGUING WITH ME, I HAVE KIDS GNAWING AT ME AND WHILE I'M TRYING TO DEAL WITH THAT, BUT ALSO TEACH THE CLASSROOM, MY TIME IS NOW GETTING WASTED AND NOW I'M HAVING TO SKIP A LESSON AND THEY GO AND SWITCH TO THE NEXT CLASS.

I DON'T KNOW HOW, I NEED Y'ALL UP IN THESE SCHOOLS, IT'S GETTING BAD.

I KNOW SOME OF THESE STAFFS HERE, I DON'T GET PAID $90 A DAY.

HONESTLY, AT THIS POINT, IT'S NOT WORTH IT ANYMORE.

YOU KNOW I HAVE OTHER JOBS, YOU KNOW MY FAMILY.

I THINK I GET PAID MORE WITH THEM, BUT I CHOOSE TO WORK WITH YOU GUYS BECAUSE I LOVE THE DISTRICT.

I WENT TO TO RIDER MYSELF, I LOVE THIS SCHOOL DISTRICT.

BUT IF I'M GETTING TREATED LIKE THIS BY STUDENTS, I DON'T WANT TO WORK FOR THIS SCHOOL DISTRICT ANY MORE.

IT'S BECOMING A REPETITION BETWEEN ALL THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS AND THE MIDDLE SCHOOLS.

I STOPPED WORKING AT MCNEIL FOR SOMETHING BECAUSE OF THE KIDS CUSSING EACH OTHER.

I DON'T WANT WORK IN THAT DISTRICT ANYMORE, IF THAT'S WHAT KEEPS HAPPENING.

ONE OF THE REASONS WHY THE LIBRARY WAS NAMED AFTER MS. TAYLOR'S BECAUSE SHE WAS A LONGTIME PRINCIPLE THERE.

WE TALKED ABOUT DISCIPLINE PROBLEMS, SHE DIDN'T HAVE ANY AT HER SCHOOL.

ALSO SHE HAS THE PRINCIPLE OF THE NATIONAL BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL, KIRBY JUNIOR HIGH AT TEXAS BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL, KIRBY JUNIOR HIGH.

THIS AUDIT CONDUCTED AS PART OF GOVERNOR ABBOTT SCHOOL SAFETY DIRECTIVES FOR ALL SCHOOL SYSTEMS SEEKS TO HELP DISTRICTS IDENTIFY HOW CAMPUSES CAN OCCUR THIS API FOR STUDENTS, SUCH AS ENSURING EXTERIOR DOORS ARE LOCKED.

THE AUDIT PROVIDES US WITH AN OPPORTUNITY TO CREATE A SAFER LEARNING ENVIRONMENT FOR OUR STUDENTS AND STAFF.
