>> [NOISE] GOOD AFTERNOON. AS PRESIDENT OF

[I. CALL TO ORDER AND OPENING STATEMENT]

[00:00:03]

THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES AT WICHITA FALLS INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT, I HEREBY CALL TO ORDER THIS SPECIAL SESSION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES.

LET THE RECORD REFLECT THAT A QUORUM OF THE BOARD IS PRESENT, THAT THE MEETING HAS BEEN DULY CALLED AND NOTICE OF THE MEETING HAS BEEN POSTED FOR THE TIME AND IN THE MANNER THAT IS REQUIRED BY LAW.

IT'S MY PLEASURE TO WELCOME EACH OF YOU TO THIS SPECIAL SESSION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES.

PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT THIS IS A MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES HELD IN THE PUBLIC AND NOT A MEETING OF THE PUBLIC.

PLEASE BE SURE THAT ALL YOUR CELL PHONES ARE TURNED TO OFF TO TURNED TO SILENCE OR VIBRATE MODE AT WHICH POINT WE ALL CHECK.

WE'RE PLEASED THAT YOU'VE TAKEN THE TIME TO JOIN US THIS AFTERNOON.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN WICHITA FALLS INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT.

FIRST-ORDER OF BUSINESS WILL BE THE INVOCATION AND I INVITE MR. THOMPSON.

>> OH LORD, I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR TODAY.

I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR THE SUNSHINE.

I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR JUST THE CHANCE TO BE HERE TODAY.

WE PRAY YOUR HAND OF SAFETY ON OUR STUDENTS AND ON OUR STAFF AS WE COMPLETE THIS TERM, AND JUST LOOK FORWARD TO THE SEASON WHEN WE CAN RELAX WITH FAMILY AND THEN THE SOUL REVIEW.

WE PRAY WISDOM ON THE BOARD TODAY AND DECISIONS THAT THEY'RE MAKING IN GUIDANCE AND IN JESUS NAME, I PRAY.

>> AMEN.

>> AMEN. [OVERLAPPING] [LAUGHTER]

>> WE FIND YOU'RE INTERESTED IN THAT.

>> YEAH.

>> MRS. BENJAMIN, ANY PUBLIC COMMENTS? NO PUBLIC COMMENTS TODAY.

WE'LL MOVE RIGHT INTO BUSINESS AND TALK ABOUT THE CONSTRUCTION UPDATES.

[IV.A. Construction Update for WF Legacy High School and WF Memorial High School]

>> DAVID POTTER IS NOT HERE, SO I'M GOING TO GIVE YOU ALL THE NARRATIVE OF WHAT'S GOING ON WITH TO PULL UP THE PICTURES FROM EACH SITE [INAUDIBLE] DO THAT.

WE'LL JUST GO THROUGH IT TOGETHER.

OF COURSE, I'M GOING TO SKIP THAT PART WHERE HE ALWAYS TALKS ABOUT AREAS, YOU AND I BECAUSE THAT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE TO ANYBODY UNLESS YOU HAVE A MAP IN FRONT OF YOU, BUT I JUST WANTED TO I DIDN'T WANT TO SHOW YOU SOME PICTURES AND WE'VE BEEN TAKEN QUITE A FEW TOURS HERE LATELY AND THERE'S BEEN A LOT THAT'S BEEN GETTING TAKEN CARE OF THAT YOU CAN SEE LIKE THE FINE FINISHES, FOR EXAMPLE, ON THE RIGHT YOU SEE THE LOCKERS, THOSE HAVE BEEN INSTALLED.

THIS IS AT MEMORIAL.

IT WAS ON THE 17TH OF NOVEMBER, SO THEY'VE ALREADY COMPLETED QUITE A BIT MORE SINCE THIS, BUT THE COMPETITION GYM, YOU CAN SEE THE SEATING HAS GONE IN AND THAT'S ON THE HOME SIDE.

THE FIXED SEATING.

>> THOSE LOCKERS ARE FOR NOT HAVING LOCKERS FOR EVERY STUDENT.

>> ATHLETICS.

>> ATHLETIC.

>> WE'LL HAVE ATHLETIC LOCKERS AND THEN WE'LL HAVE FINE ART, BAD BLOCKERS, BUT THEY ONLY KNOW LOCKERS IN SCHOOL.

ESPECIALLY WITH THE TECHNOLOGY AS IT IS A LOT OF THINGS, BUT JUST DON'T SEE THE FLUORINE AND SOME LOCKER ROOMS, BAND HALL, THE ACOUSTIC CEILING.

I'M GOING TO SCROLL DOWN.

THEN THERE'S THE CAFETERIA, KITCHEN AREA, GOT THE STAINLESS GOING IN AND THEY'RE REALLY STARTING TO TAKE SHAPE IN THE KITCHEN AND THE EQUIPMENT GOING IN AND LOOKS REALLY GOOD.

THEY'VE COME A LONG WAY IN THE LAST TWO OR THREE WEEKS FOR THAT.

GO AHEAD AND SCROLL UP. IT'S AN AERIAL VIEW.

>> THEY HAD READ THAT. [LAUGHTER] THAT'S WHAT WE DID.

>> THAT'S RIGHT. IT'S TAKEN PLACE AND SEE WHERE IT'S BEEN LEVELED OUT FOR ATHLETIC FACILITIES.

YOU CAN SEE THE TRACK TAKING SHAPE AND THEN TO THE BACK LEFT.

IT'S COMING ALONG VERY NICELY AT MEMORIAL.

LEGACY IS AS WE KNOW, THEY'RE A LITTLE BIT BEHIND JUST FROM ALL THE SITE WORK THAT TOOK PLACE ORIGINALLY, BUT THEY STILL, THEY ARE COMING ALONG NICELY AS WELL.

[NOISE] LET'S TAKE A LOOK AT SOME OF THE PICTURES, YOU CAN SEE THE BRICK.

IT'S BILINGUAL INTO THAT RED BRICK MAKES IT LOOK REALLY GOOD.

THAT HANGING DOWN LIGHTING IN THE [INAUDIBLE] [LAUGHTER] LET'S SCROLL UP.

WELL, THERE'S JUST MORE AREA OF THE BRICK AND THE EXTERIOR.

LOT OF THE SCIENCE FURNITURES IN, SOMEBODY WHO GOT TO SEE THAT BESIDES LAB COUNTERS, THEY'LL GET THE TABLES ARE IN, ALL OF THAT EQUIPMENT IN THE SCIENCE AREAS.

SCREAMING AND MORE BRICK IN HERE.

NO MORE GREEN EXTERIOR WHEN YOU DRIVE BY AND SEE THEM ON THE HILL AND [INAUDIBLE] WHAT YOU DID SAY, ALL THE GREEN AND THEY'RE STARTING TO REALLY GET IT BRICKED IN.

MORE LOOKING AT EASE. MOVING ALONG NICELY ALONG SCHEDULE HAVEN'T HAD ANY BUT REALLY BAD WHETHER THAT'S HINDERED THEM.

WE'RE AVERAGING OVER 250 WORKERS ON SITE EVERY TIME.

WITH THAT, THAT'S GOOD AND THE BAD PART ABOUT THAT IS WHEN WE GET ALL THESE REQUESTS TO GO VISIT THE SITES, IT'S HARD TO GET IN.

YOU HAVE TO REALLY WATCH FOR WORKERS.

[00:05:03]

THE LAST TOWARD THAT WE DID AND JUST REGULAR PART OF THAT.

WE TOOK THE CITY ON. WE WERE STEPPING OVER WIRES AND LOOKING UP.

IT'S DANGEROUS TO TAKE LARGE GROUPS, BUT PEOPLE ARE EXCITED, THEY WANT TO GET IN THEM AND WE UNDERSTAND THAT WE'LL BE SETTING UP LARGE-SCALE TOURS LATER ON FEBRUARY, MARCH, REALLY WHEN WE GET THE KEYS IN APRIL, WE'LL BE HAVING FULL ACCESS, BUT WE'RE STILL TAKING SMALL TOURS 1,015 PEOPLE AND LET THEM SEE IT AT A TIME.

IT'S EXCITING TIMES AND THEY'RE MOVING ALONG NICELY.

NO DELAYS TO REPORT THIS LINE. QUESTIONS.

>> IT'S IMPRESSIVE.

>> IT IS.

>> THE PUBLIC WILL BE VERY EXCITED WITH KIDS AND PARENTS.

THEY'RE BOUND TO BE EXCITED.

[IV.B. 2023-2024 Goals and Performance Objectives]

WE'LL MOVE ON TO OUR, WHAT WE'RE MOST EXCITED ABOUT IS PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES. [LAUGHTER] [OVERLAPPING]

>> [INAUDIBLE].

>> THE THIRD TIER IS THE CHARM. [OVERLAPPING]

>> ALMOST BEGINNING TO EXISTENCE. [LAUGHTER]

>> ALL RIGHT.

>> ON TO THE PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVE ONE THAT WAS ABOUT TEACHER RETENTION THAT WAS SET AT 85% FROM OUR PREVIOUS CONVERSATION.

I DON'T THINK THERE'S ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION THERE.

WE'LL GO ON TO THE PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVE FOR THE PRE-K STUDENTS.

AGAIN, I THINK THAT ONE WAS OKAY PREVIOUSLY THAT WAS AN INCREASE IN 35% WHEN THE GAME IN YOUR MATH AND 5% FROM BEGINNING OF THE YEAR TO END THE YEAR FOR THE RAPID LETTER NAMING, THE 35% INCREASE IN THE MATH, THE 5% INCREASE AND I THINK THAT WAS GOOD WITH THE BOARD PREVIOUSLY.

>> I THINK SO. WE'RE BEING REBOOTED.

>> OH, I'M SORRY. I'LL BE ON MY WAY.

I APOLOGIZE. I GOT EXCITED.

>> I'M SO SORRY.

>> IT'S ONE WAY TO CONTROL THE MEETING.

[LAUGHTER] [INAUDIBLE] BASICALLY IN THE PRE-K WE WANT TO GO FROM 35-70 IN MATH AND READING OR WORD LETTER RECOGNITION.

>> IT WOULD ACTUALLY BE FROM THE BEGINNING OF THIS YEAR IT WAS AT 48%, SO AT 35% INCREASE WOULD BE CALCULATING MATH THERE, 70 [OVERLAPPING] YES A LITTLE BIT MORE THAN THAT.

BECAUSE WE WENT UP FROM LAST YEAR.

LAST YEAR IT WAS 39% OF THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR, THIS YEAR WOULD BE 48%.

AGAIN, 35% INCREASE.

IN MIAMI WE ALSO WENT UP A LITTLE BIT AT THE BEGINNING OF YOUR SCORE TO 85% OF THE BEGINNING OF YEAR WOULD BE A 5% INCREASE WHICH TAKES TO 9%.

>> GOOD NUMBERS.

>> THEN THE TEACHER ATTENTION JUST TO.

>> LET'S SAY 5%.

>> WHICH IS A SLIGHT INCREASE FROM LAST YEAR.

>> YES, MA'AM. THE YEAR BEFORE THE LAST DATA WE HAD FROM THE TYPE OF REPORT WAS 83.7.

THAT STAYED FAIRLY STATIC, DROPPED A LITTLE BIT, GOING UP A LITTLE BIT.

STAYED FAIRLY STATIC AROUND THAT PERSON THERE.

ON PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVE 2 THAT'S WHERE WE STOPPED LAST TIME WHERE THERE WAS SOME DISCUSSION AND THE PERFORMANCE WAS CHANGED, THEY'VE ALWAYS CHANGED TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS READING AT GRADE LEVEL FROM 47% AT BEGINNING OF YEAR TO 80% BY END OF THE YEAR IS THE PROPOSED GO AND INCREASE THE NUMBER OF K STUDENTS PERFORMING AT GRADE LEVEL IN MATH FROM 47% AT BEGINNING OF YEAR TO 80% AT END OF YEAR.

YOU CAN SEE THAT THE PREDICTS YOUR DATA PROVIDED TO THE BOARD SHOWED THAT THERE WASN'T A LOT OF GROWTH FROM BEGINNING OF THE YEAR TO END THE YEAR IN READING LAST YEAR IN READING AND THEN THE SAME IN MATH BUT WE WANTED TO PROVIDE AN AGGRESSIVE GOAL FOR THE BOARD TO CONSIDER THERE SINCE WE'RE TALKING ABOUT THOSE FUNDAMENTAL SKILLS.

>> I MAY HAVE A COMMENT OF THIS. I THINK THAT'S GREAT.

>> FOR PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVE STORY, AGAIN, THAT WAS A GOAL THAT WAS CHANGED AND IT MIRRORS THE PREVIOUS GOAL IN WORDING.

INCREASE THE NUMBER OF FIRST GRADE STUDENTS AT GRADE LEVEL FROM

[00:10:01]

42% OF THE BEGINNING OF YEAR TO 80% END OF THE YEAR.

THE SITE FOR MATH 47% AT BEGINNING OF GEAR TO 80% AT END OF YEAR.

AGAIN MATH HAS PREVIOUS YOUR DATA THERE TO CONSIDER.

AGAIN, IT WOULD BE AN AGGRESSIVE GOAL BUT AGAIN, BECAUSE IT'S THOSE FUNDAMENTAL SKILLS JUST WANTED TO SEND AN AGGRESSIVE GOAL FOR THE BOARD TO CONSIDER THERE.

>> THIS IS FOR FIRST GRADE STUDENTS, SO LAST YEAR THEY ONLY INCREASED IN READING 7% BEGINNING TO END.

>> YES, MA'AM. IT WOULD BE A VERY AGGRESSIVE GOAL.

>> WE WANT HAVE SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENT.

>> YES, MA'AM.

>> ANY OTHER COMMENTS?

>> FOR PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVE 4 SECOND GRADE.

AGAIN, THIS WOULD BE SIMILAR TO THE PREVIOUS OLD BUT FOR SECOND GRADE, 43% FOR RATING AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR TO 80% AT END OF YEAR.

FOR MATH FROM 54% AT THE BEGINNING OF YEAR TO 80% AT END OF YEAR.

AGAIN, YOU'LL SEE AN INCREMENTAL INCREASES FROM THE YEAR PRIOR.

BUT AGAIN, A SUGGESTED AGGRESSIVE GOAL FOR THIS YEAR FOR THE SECOND GRADE FOR THE BOARD TO CONSIDER.

>> ANY COMMENTS? WELL, I PERSONALLY IMPLORE AGGRESSIVE GOAL NOW I PERSONALLY THINK.

>> WE GATHER THAT [LAUGHTER]

>> I THINK MOST OF US WANT TO HAVE OUR KIDS READING AND KNOWING MATH.

>> YES, MA'AM.

>> BUT ARE WE EVALUATING AND I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS YOU, OR MRS. GEOFFREY, OR DR. LEE.

ARE WE EVALUATING HOW OUR KIDS ARE GOING UP 2% AND HOW WE'RE GOING TO CHANGE IT TO GO UP 54% OR TO GET TO THESE BIGGER NUMBERS SO THAT WE'RE NOT CREATING THE SAME RESULTS? YOU WANT TO ADDRESS THAT OR?

>> WELL, WE STARTED THAT WHEN WE'RE COMPARING APPLES TO APPLES AND WE'RE NOT COMPARING DIFFERENT CURRICULUMS TO DIFFERENT CURRICULUM.

BIG PART OF THAT IS JUST THE IMPLEMENTATION OF A CURRICULUM WHICH WE'RE WORKING ON IT'S AN ONGOING GOAL AND I THINK WE'LL BE ABLE TO HANDLE THAT A LITTLE BIT BETTER IN THE FUTURE.

NOW IT'S BEEN REALLY DIFFICULT TO SAY WHAT 2% LOOKS LIKE ON ONE CAMPUS VERSUS ANOTHER CAMPUS WHEN THEY'RE ON DIFFERENT THINGS.

I THINK IN THE FUTURE WE'LL HAVE A BETTER GRIP ON THAT AND WE'LL BE ABLE TO HAVE A CONTROL GROUP, MAYBE JUST THE FIRST EIGHT CAMPUSES THAT WE HAVE VERSUS THE OTHER ONES AND SEE IF THEY'RE PROPOSING SOME DIFFERENCES IN ACADEMIC OUTCOMES.

THIS DIP REED, MR. HILL, ANYTHING TO ADD TO THAT?

>> ONLY JUST AS YOU SAID, IMPLEMENTING THE IMPACT GOING TO SUPPORT THAT EFFORT.

NOW UNFORTUNATELY IT'S GOING TO TAKE SOME TIME TO GET THAT TO EVERY CAMPUS I WOULD LIKE TO.

BUT I DO THINK THAT MOSTLY HAVE SOME CONSISTENCY IN THE CURRICULUM WE PROVIDE.

IT GIVES US SOME LEVERAGE TO [INAUDIBLE]

>> ALSO WE SEE THE LEVEL OF INCREASE WE WOULD LIKE TO SEE AS LONG AS WE'RE MAKING PROGRESS IT'S ALL OUT THERE.

>> ANY OTHER COMMENTS MR. [INAUDIBLE]?

>> I'M JUST CURIOUS. CAN WE GO BACK ONE SLIDE [OVERLAPPING]

>> TO THE FIRST GRADE.

>> TO THE FIRST GRADE.

AT END OF THE YEAR, OUR FIRST GRADERS WERE AT 39%.

>> NO, THOSE ARE SECOND GRADES.

>> THAT'S SECOND.

>> FIRST GRADE OR THE SECOND GRADE?

>> LET'S GO BACK TO THE FIRST GRADE. HERE WE GO.

AT THE END OF LAST YEAR OUR FIRST GRADERS, 50% WERE AT GRADE LEVEL.

THEN IF WE ADVANCE THE SLIDE, WITH THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR NOT BE RELEVANT TO THAT NUMBER?

>> CAN YOU GO ONE MORE SLIDE, THERE.

>> AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR, OUR SECOND GRADERS WHO WERE FIRST GRADERS LAST YEAR AND WERE HITTING 50% WALK IN AND THEY'RE ONLY HITTING 43 [OVERLAPPING]

>> THOSE ARE DIFFERENT STANDARDS, DIFFERENT GRADE LEVELS.

THEY ACCOMPLISHED AND YOU-ALL CAN HELP ME OUT IF YOU WANT TO ADD TO THIS BUT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT FIRST GRADE STANDARDS AT THE END OF THE YEAR THEY'VE ACCOMPLISHED 50% OF THAT.

NOW YOU'RE IN A DIFFERENT GRADE LEVEL.

>> SECOND GRADE STANDARD.

>> SECOND STANDARD. THEN AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR.

>> AT THE BEGINNING OF SECOND GRADE BE COMPARABLE TO THE END OF FIRST? IT SHOULD BE AND HAVE A WHOLE NEW SET A [INAUDIBLE].

>> IT'S SIMILAR BUT IT'S NOT EXACT AND THEN YOU GOT THE ISSUE OF SUMMER SLIDE, SO THERE'S ALL THOSE FACTORS THAT COME INTO PLAY.

IT COULD BE DIFFERENT KIDS, WHOLE HOST OF ISSUES. BUT YEAH, GOOD QUESTION.

>> IT'S A GREAT QUESTION.

[00:15:01]

>> THIRD GRADE.

>> THIRD GRADE. WE'VE MOVED INTO STORE.

FOR THIRD GRADE, WE GOT INCREASE THE NUMBER OF THIRD GRADE STUDENTS SCORING MEETS GRADE LEVEL IN READING FROM 41%-80% BY THE END OF THE YEAR BY 2024 AND INCREASE THE NUMBER OF THIRD GRADE STUDENTS SCORING MEETS AT GRADE LEVEL IN MATH FROM 30%-80% BY 2024.

ALSO ON HERE FOR THE BOARD OR REFERENCE, I ALSO ADDED STATE REFERENCE DATUM ON HERE SO YOU CAN ALSO SEE HOW WE HAVE PERFORMED AT THE MEETS LEVEL AND HOW THE STATE HAS PERFORMED AT THE MEETS LEVEL THAT GIVES YOU A LITTLE BIT OF FRAME OF REFERENCE ALSO.

WE MET, WE SCORED AS A DISTRICT AT 41% AND READING THE STATES WERE TO 51%.

OUR GOAL IS OUR PROJECTED GOAL, OUR PROPOSED GOAL IS TO BE AT 80%.

>> A LITTLE DISHEARTENING.

I LIKE THE 80%, BUT THE 10%.

>> DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE STATE, YES, MA'AM [OVERLAPPING]

>> THIS MARKET THINKS OF ITSELF.

>> MY PERSONAL THIS IS JUST, I'M NOT SPEAKING FOR THE DAC AND THE DISTRICT.

MY PERSONAL THOUGHT IS OBVIOUSLY ALWAYS WANT TO OUTPERFORM THE STATE AT LEAST.

BUT THE GOAL THAT WE'VE SAID OBVIOUSLY FAR EXCEEDS THE STATE, BE BACK TO [INAUDIBLE]

>> ANY COMMENTS, DISAGREEMENTS? FOURTH GRADE.

>> FOURTH GRADE. OH, I'M SORRY.

THEN WE MOVE ON INTO OUR CCMR GOALS.

GOAL 3 IS ALL ABOUT CCMR AND PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVE 1 THERE RELATES TO ANNUAL GRADUATES THAT MADE THE TSI CRITERIA IN BOTH READING AND MATH WILL INCREASE FROM 33%-50% BY AUGUST OF 2024.

AGAIN, YOU'LL SEE THERE THAT THE STATE, MOST RECENT STATE THAT WE HAVE WAS IT 20%. WE WERE AT 33%.

OUR GOAL WAS SET AT 50%.

SORRY, THERE WE GO SORRY, THAT'S THAT FIRST GOAL, I'LL SLOW DOWN SO SINCE WE WEREN'T IN THE RIGHT SLIDE I APOLOGIZE.

>> THIS IS PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVE 1 UNDER CCMR?

>> YES, MA'AM. PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVE 1 MET TSI CRITERIA BUT BRINGING A MATH WILL INCREASE FROM 33%-50%.

OUR LAST SCORE WAS 33%, WE'RE RECOMMENDING TO INCREASE THE 50% OF THE STATE WAS IT 40.

>> FOR THE PUBLIC CYCLE YOU'VE DEFINED TSI?

>> TSI IS THE CRITERIA, THE STATE.

I'M SORRY, DR. NORTON DO YOU WANT TO BE ABLE TO BE HANDLE TSI?

>> THE TEXAS SUCCESS INITIATIVE AND THE STATE HAS SET DIFFERENT GUIDELINES FOR BEING COLLEGE READY BASED ON ASSESSMENTS IS THAT TSIA, SAT, ACT.

>> ALL OF OUR STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO TAKE THE TSI?

>> NOT ALL.

>> PRIMARILY.

>> MOST.

>> WE WANT 50% TO PASS IT.

IS THAT WHAT WE'RE SAYING? [BACKGROUND]

>> WELL, WE WARN THE PERCENT OF ANNUAL GRADUATES THAT MEET THE TSI CRITERIA IN BOTH READING AND MATH WILL INCREASE FROM 33 TO 50.

>> TSI CRITERIA ARE PRIMARILY SET FOR COLLEGE ENTRIES SO THAT YOU CAN ENTER COLLEGE WITHOUT REMEDIATION.

SINCE ALL OF OUR STUDENTS AREN'T ATTEND COLLEGE FOR VARIOUS REASONS, I THINK OF THAT AS PART OF IT.

>> ANY COMMENTS? NO. PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVE 2, THE PERCENT OF STUDENTS ANNUAL GRADUATES THAT MEET THE CRITERIA IS FOR ON AN AP IB RESULTS IN ANY EXAM WILL INCREASE FROM 13% TO 30% BY AUGUST OF 2024.

I CURRENTLY THE STATE RACE 21%.

WE WERE PERFORMING AT 13% ARE REGULARLY [INAUDIBLE] THE STATE WAS PERFORMING AT 21.

>> SOME OF THAT BUT NUMBER CAN BE EXPLAINED BY WE DON'T HAVE AS MANY KIDS TAKING A AP BECAUSE IT MIGHT BE TAKING DUAL CREDIT.

THAT NUMBER ALTHOUGH IT'S A LOWER PERCENTAGE, IT HAS MORE TO DO WITH PARTICIPATION [OVERLAPPING]

>> THAT IS ABSOLUTELY CORRECT. WE GET THERE.

>> GET THERE.

[00:20:04]

>> PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVE 3, THAT PERCENT OF ANNUAL GRADUATES THAT ARE AT OR ABOVE CRITERION FOR SAT RESULTS WILL INCREASE 45-50% BY AUGUST OF 2024.

THAT ONE, OR ACTUALLY ABOVE THIS STATE, THE STATE IS 33% THERE.

WE PERFORMED AT 45%.

OUR RECOMMENDATION WAS TO PUSH THAT TO 50.

>> CAN I ASK YOU A QUESTIONS.

>> PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVE 4 THE PERCENT OF ANNUAL GRADUATES THAT WERE SAVED AND APPROVED INDUSTRY-BASED CERTIFICATE WILL INCREASE FROM 16% TO 25% BY AUGUST OF 2024.

CURRENTLY, WE HAD 16%.

THE STATE WAS AN 18%.

WE WERE COMPRISING 25%.

>> IS THIS IN CONFLICT TO THE CEC GOAL OF 88%?

>> I THINK THIS IS THE ACTUAL STUDENTS WHO RECEIVE OF ALL OF OUR GRADUATES TOTAL, THEY ACTUALLY RECEIVE THAT INDUSTRY-BASED CERTIFICATE.

>> NOT ALL STUDENTS GO TO THE CEC WILL BE LOWER THAN WHAT THE CEC WANTS TO.

>> YES, MA'AM.

>> EVERYBODY GOOD WITH THAT?

>> I THINK YOU ASKED ME THAT LAST TIME I HAD TO DO RESEARCH.

THE PERCENT OF ANNUAL GRADUATES THAT ARE ENROLLED IN DUAL CREDIT COURSES WILL INCREASE 16-30% BY AUGUST OF 2024.

CURRENTLY, WE WERE AT 16%.

THE STATE WAS A 26%, SO WE SET A GOAL FOR 30.

>> RABBIT TRAIL QUESTION TO YOU, DR. LEE.

STUDENT TAKES A DUAL CREDIT, HOW MUCH DOES THAT COST THEM? IS COST A BARRIER FOR US TO INCREASE THIS NUMBER BECAUSE THE KIDS HAVE TO PAY FOR IT THEMSELVES OR SCHOLARSHIP MONEY OR ABOUT BEING IMPORTANT?

>> WE FULLY THE DUAL CREDIT VERSUS STUDENTS WHO ARE ON FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH.

THEN WE SUBSIDIZE FOR ALL OF THE OTHER STUDENTS WHO SAID THAT THEIR COST IS, I THINK IT'S LESS THAN HALF OF WHAT THE ACTUAL AFFLICTION.

>> WE DON'T FEEL AS THOUGH COST IS THE BARRIER TO INCREASING THIS NUMBER?

>> NOT PRIMARILY. WE DO NOT COVER BOOKS FOR VARIOUS REASONS BECAUSE WE USE A LOT OF GRANT MONEY FOR IT, THEIR REQUIREMENTS FOR THAT.

BUT EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE WE'LL COME UP WITH PLAN TOO AND THINGS ABOUT IT, BUT THEY CAN'T BRIDGE, BUT PERHAPS NOT PRIMARILY.

>> I WILL SAY THESE SCORES ARE ALWAYS A YEAR BEHIND.

THE GRADUATE NUMBERS ARE I MEAN, A YEAR BEHIND ANY WAY TO THIN THERE, A YEAR BEHIND.

I JUST WILL SAY CANADA, AS A FORMER HOSTILE TOWARDS FULL CREDIT NUMBERS HAVE DRAMATICALLY INCREASED OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS.

THESE WILL TREND UPWARDS SIGNIFICANTLY IN THE WFISD SIGNIFICANTLY.

>> I WOULD THINK THAT A COST BARRIER OF BOOKS IS SOMETHING THAT WOULD BE OVERCOME A BOWL.

IF WE NEED TO OR THE PUBLIC NEEDS TO PARTICIPATE [OVERLAPPING]

>> IT POSE THAT AS A REASON THAT NORMALLY WE FIND THE RIGHT SOLUTION?

>> I GOT A QUESTION FOR DR. MORGAN.

ARE THERE ENOUGH SEATS AVAILABLE TO ACCOMMODATE A DOUBLING IN OUR DUAL CREDIT COURSES?

>> IN BURN-IN AND VERY COOPERATIVE WITH TRYING TO MAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE IN THAT ROOM AND THEY'RE IN THEIR COURSE OFFERINGS FOR THE STUDENT OR FOR OUR STUDENTS AS WELL.

IN SOME CASES THEY SET ASIDE SPECIFIC SECTIONS ON ESTIMATES OF HOW MANY STUDENTS WILL THINK WELL WHAT WE HAVE IN SEPARATE CLASSES.

THEN IN OTHER CASES, THEY JUST SAVE US A BUNCH OF SEATS AND ALL OF THEIR SECTIONS SO THAT THERE WILL BE ENOUGH.

OCCASIONALLY WE'VE RUN INTO A SECTION HERE THAT IT'S NOT A COMMON DUAL CREDIT COURSE THAT VERY FEW OF OUR STUDENTS TAKE.

THAT ENDS UP BEING DUAL.

BUT FOR THE MOST PART, YES.

WE TRIED TO GIVE THEM GUESSTIMATE NUMBERS.

THEY SAW THE STUDENTS THAT ORIGINALLY SIGN UP PRIOR TO THEM SETTING THEIR COURSES.

>> IN HIS TRANSPORTATION OF PROBLEMS, GETTING FROM CAMPUS TO AN ISSUE OR BURNING?

>> MSU HAS BEEN PROVIDING TRANSPORTATION FOR OUR STUDENTS.

THE STUDENTS THAT DO NOT HAVE TRANSPORTATION HAVE BEEN ABLE TO ATTEND CLASSES AT MSU.

BERNARD DOES MITOGEN KEPT FOR PATIENTS, SO MOST OF THE STUDENTS THAT GO IN HAVE THEIR OWN TRANSPORTATION.

>> THERE'S NO STRUCTURAL BARRIERS TO KEEP US FROM GETTING TO 30%?

>> YOU HAVE ALL THESE?

>> STUDENT SAYS THERE IS A PREFERENCE.

SOME STUDENTS SEEM TO ACCREDIT, ISN'T AN INCENTIVE THOUGH, AS A POSITIVE THING, AT LEAST THE STUDENTS THAT I DEAL WITH IN MY CHURCH AND IN MY COMMUNITY.

[00:25:02]

THEN SOME SEE IT AS AN INCENTIVE OR THEY SEE IT AS A BURDEN.

I THINK THERE'S A LOT TO DO IN TERMS OF WHAT THE GOAL IS, WHEN THEY GO FURTHER EDUCATION.

>> I THINK SOME OF THAT MIGHT BE WHAT WE NEED TO DO IN TERMS OF MARKETING TO OUR KIDS TO EXPLAIN TO THEM THE BENEFIT OF THIS AND THAT THEY CAN DO THAT, BUT I'M SURE THAT'S ON THEIR BIKE RADAR.

>> WHAT I'M SEEING IS SOME AMOUNT OF KIDS GRADUATING AT THE AGE OF 20 AND 21 FROM COLLEGE BECAUSE THEY'VE DONE SO MUCH IN A DUAL CREDIT IN HASKELL THAT WHEN THEY GET OUT OF THE HOSPITAL, THEY ALREADY HAVE A LOT OF CREDITS SINCE THEY'RE GRADUATING EARLY.

WE REALLY NEED TO MARKET THAT. YOU ARE CORRECT.

>> WAY CHEAPER TO DO IT NOW.

>> YES, IT IS. THANK YOU FOR THE RED.

>> OBJECTIVE 6, THE PERCENT OF ANNUAL GRADUATES THAT ARE COLLEGE CAREER OR MILITARY READY WILL INCREASE FROM 54% TO 75% BY AUGUST OF 2024.

CURRENTLY THE STATE IS AT 65%.

WE SET OUR GOAL AT 75%.

ANY COMMENTS QUESTIONS.

WE GOOD? THANK YOU.

FOR IMPROVING LOW PERFORMING SCHOOLS OBJECTIVE 1, STUDENT'S SCORE MEETS GRADE LEVEL STANDARD OR HIRING READING WILL INCREASE FROM 42% TO 55%.

CURRENTLY, THE STATE IS AT 53.

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVE 2 STUDENTS MEET GRADE LEVEL STANDARD HIGHER OR HIGHER IN MATH WILL INCREASE FROM 33% TO 44%.

CURRENTLY THE STATE IS AT 42 OBJECTIVE 3, STUDENTS SCORING MEETS GRADE LEVEL OR HIGHER AND SCIENCE WILL INCREASE FROM 4%, 50%.

CURRENTLY THE STATE IS AT 47.

OBJECTIVES 4, STUDENTS SCORING MEETS GRADE LEVEL STANDARD OR HIGHER IN SOCIAL STUDIES WILL INCREASE FROM 45% TO 58%.

CURRENTLY THE STATE IS AT 50.

QUESTIONS. PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVE 5, THE DISTRICT OVERALL WILL HAVE AT LEAST 75 PARENT AND FAMILY ENGAGEMENT EVENTS BY THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.

LAST YEAR THERE WERE 69.

THEN PREFERENCE OBJECTIVE 6, IF THAT CATCH-ALL FOR COVID, 100% OF STUDENTS WILL BE PROVIDED INSTRUCTION DURING THE CURRENT PANDEMIC BY FINDING ACADEMIC SUPPORT, SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL SUPPORTS, HEALTH AND SAFETY, AND CONTINUITY OF SERVICE.

>> ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS ON THIS SLIDE? MY PERSPECTIVE IS, I DON'T REALLY LIKE THOSE NUMBERS PARTICULARLY.

I THINK I HAD TO MODERATE THAT BECAUSE I THINK WHAT WE'VE SEEN IS YOU'VE MET A LOT OF IT DOES LEAVE YOUR STAFF HAVE MADE A LOT OF EFFORTS TO IMPACT OUR LOW-PERFORMING SCHOOLS AND WE'RE LAYERING IT ON WITH OUR NEW READING CURRICULUM.

WE'RE TALKING ABOUT THE MATH CURRICULUMS AND I THINK IT'S GOING TO BE A PROCESS.

I APPRECIATE EVERYTHING IS BEING STEPPED UP.

I WOULD LIKE US TO LOOK VERY CAREFULLY AT WHAT IT IS NEXT YEAR TO SEE IF WE DID STEP IT UP.

BECAUSE ONCE WE START STEPPING IT UP, IT SHOULD BE ABLE TO STEP UP FASTER, I'D SAY.

ONCE WE IT GETS MORE AND MORE FIRMS IN CURRICULUM IN SCHOOLS.

ALTHOUGH WE MIGHT HEAR SOME NEGATIVE COMMENTS ABOUT A 42% GOAL OR 54% GOAL.

I THINK WE'RE LOOKING AT LITTLE BIT FARTHER DOWN THE PATH BEFORE WE'RE GOING TO GET UP INTO THOSE HIGHER NUMBERS.

>> BUT IF YOUR GOALS ARE HIGH EXCESS OF EACH STATE.

>> OR EACH STATE.

>> EACH STATE PERFORMANCE.

THAT IS ONE THING THAT YOU CAN CONSIDER.

>> OTHER COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS.

>> IF WE CAN NEXT YEAR HAVE THOSE NUMBERS COME BACK ON THE SLIDE.

LET'S SEE WHAT THE GOALS WERE THIS YEAR WHEN WE HAVE THE NEW GOALS NEXT YEAR BECAUSE I SAID MIXTURE, LET ME PUSH A LITTLE BIT MORE SO YOU CAN SEE THAT MAYBE A BAR GRAPH OF THIS YEAR AGO WITH NEXT YEAR'S GOALS.

NEXT YEAR WHEN WE HAVE THESE GOALS.

[00:30:01]

>> HAVE THIS YEAR'S NUMBERS AND THEN NEXT YEAR'S NUMBERS [OVERLAPPING]

>> WE HAVE LAST YEAR, THIS YEAR AND THEN IT'D BE. [OVERLAPPING]

>> LET'S DO THREE YEARS [LAUGHTER]

>> THAT'S WHAT WE'VE BEEN DOING. THAT'S NO PROBLEM. I CAN COLLECT THAT.

>> THAT GOAL MIGHT HAVE CHANGED.

THEY MAY NOT BE THE SAME FROM YEAR TO YEAR, BUT AS FAR AS I CAN, I WILL MAKE THE GOALS, THE ONES THAT ARE SIMILAR GOALS [INAUDIBLE]. I CAN DO THAT.

>> THAT WOULD BE VERY HELPFUL.

>> ABSOLUTELY. [OVERLAPPING]

>> THIS IS A PRESENTATION UP KNOW WHAT'S IN YOUR PRESENTATION.

ACTION IS NEEDED. SO DO WE HAVE A MOTION REGARDING THIS PRESENTATION.

>> I'LL MAKE A MOTION TO ME [BACKGROUND].

>> BECAUSE YOU'RE GOING GET HE'S LOVING, GIVE ME A FEEL INSECURE.

MOVE THAT WE ACCEPT.

THIS IS GIVEN BY A DOCTOR.

>> FOR THAT MOTION, AND DO WE HAVE A SECOND?

>> I'LL SECOND.

>> SO THE MOTION HAS BEEN MADE AND SECONDED.

IS THERE ANY OTHER COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS ASSUMING NO.

ALL THOSE IN FAVOR SAY AYE.

>> AYE.

>> ALL THOSE OPPOSED. SAME SIGN PASSES 60.

IT'S NOT QUITE YET.

I'M GOING TO DR. LEE AND UPTALK AND AS A GIFT TO OUR APPRAISAL DISTRICT, WE'RE GOING TO MOVE YOU UP ON THE AGENDA, SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO SIT HERE WITH US ALL AFTERNOON.

>> A COPY OF THOSE GOALS TO US?

>> ABSOLUTELY.

>> DID YOU WANT A PRESENTATION?

>> YES, PLEASE.

>> WE'RE GOING TO MOVE EVERY ITEM 8, B.

[VIII.B. Approve Resolution to Cast Votes for Wichita Appraisal District Board of Directors]

AND THIS IS POSSIBLE ACTIONS.

SO YOU INTRODUCE YOURSELF TO THE DEFENDANT.

>> ABSOLUTELY. I'M LISA STEVENS [INAUDIBLE].

I'M THE CHIEF APPRAISER IN WHICH THE APPRAISAL.

THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME.

SO I BELIEVE THAT TODAY ON YOUR AGENDA IS TO VOTE FOR MEMBERS OF THE APPRAISAL DISTRICT BOARD OF DIRECTORS, AND IF YOU'LL RECALL, WAS IN SEPTEMBER I WAS HERE AND HE PASSED A RESOLUTION TO ALLOW US TO CHANGE THE METHOD WHICH WE HAVE BOARD MEMBERS APPOINTED TO THE APPRAISAL DISTRICT BOARD.

SO FORTH. IC HAS 120 IS ABOUT THAT'S BASED ON YOUR PERCENTAGE OF THE TOTAL LEVY OF THE JURISDICTIONS WE REPRESENT AN ACCOUNTANT.

I DON'T KNOW IF YOU HAVE A VALID SYNTAX [BACKGROUND], OR SEVEN NAMES AT THE TOP, OR CANDIDATES THAT HAD BEEN NOMINATED BY VARIOUS JURISDICTIONS IN THE CLIP IN THE COUNTY.

I DON'T BELIEVE THAT WHICH SUPPOSE ISD MADE HIM ON THE NATION.

I DID IT BECAUSE I WANT IT YOUR AGENDAS AND ACTION-PACKED SINCE THAT TIME.

BUT YOU DO HAVE THE LARGEST NUMBER OF VOTES.

THIS IS A ONE-YEAR TERM THAT WE'RE BOTH NEXT YEAR.

BECAUSE OF WHERE THE LEGISLATURE PASSED LEGISLATION AND GETTING ALL THE RESOLUTIONS ALLOWING US TO CHANGE THE METHODOLOGY, WE GOT INTO A SHORT TIME-FRAME, DIFFERENT JURISDICTIONS HAVE THEIR PUBLIC MEETINGS.

BUT THE SEVENTH GENTLEMAN THAT YOU SEE AS CANDIDATES CURRENTLY SERVE ON THE APPRAISAL DISTRICT BOARD.

THEY'RE ALL GREAT BOARD MEMBERS.

I WILL SAY THAT THREE OF THEM RESIDE IN THE BOUNDARIES OF WICHITA FALLS ISD.

YOU HAVE THE ABILITY TO SPLIT YOUR VOTES A WAY THAT YOU WISH.

YOU COULD SLIP THEM SEVEN WAYS IF YOU WERE SO INCLINED, YOU CAN SPLIT THEM IN HALF.

YOU CAN APPLY THEM ALL TO ONE WHERE YOU COULD LET NOT TO VOTE AT ALL.

>> SO I'M A LITTLE CONFUSED.

ARE WE SUPPOSED TO VOTE TO RENEW THEIR TERM ON THAT CASE?

>> IT IS A NEW TERM.

YES, AND SO THEY WILL SERVE ONE OF YOUR TERMS PREVIOUSLY,

[00:35:01]

BOARD MEMBERS HAD BEEN APPOINTED FOR TWO-YEAR TERMS. BUT BECAUSE OF THE LAW THAT HAS BEEN PASSED, THEY WILL HAVE ONE-YEAR TERMS, WHOEVER AND THERE'S FAR-RIGHT.

YOU'LL RECALL IN MAY THERE WILL BE AN ELECTION AT LARGE WHERE THREE MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC WILL BE ELECTED TO ALSO SERVE ON THE BOARD THAT THEY WON'T BE EFFECTIVE.

I TOLD YOU ABOUT ONE.

WHOEVER WILL SERVE STARTING, JANE GET ONE FOR ONE YEAR TERM, AND THE NEXT YEAR.

AGAIN, THERE WILL BE FIVE NEIGHBORS THAT WILL BE NEEDED TO BE VOTED ON, AND THEY WILL START BECAUSE THIS IS A COMPLICATED.

WE'LL NOMINATE FIVE, TWO OF THEM WILL SERVE FOR ONE TERM, FOR ONE YEAR, AND THREE OF THEM WILL SERVE FOR THREE YEARS, AND THEN BY DECEMBER OF 2025, AGAIN, THERE'LL BE TWO THAT THE ONE-YEAR TERMS, THOSE TWO WILL BE VOTING FOR FOUR-YEAR TERMS. SEE HOW CONFUSING THIS ONE MUST HAVE TAUGHT.

>> WE WANTED YOU TO TELL US WHICH ONE [INAUDIBLE].

>> IT IS MR. GORHAM, MR. COOPER, AND MR. TAYLOR.

>> SO WE YOU NEED TO HAVE FIVE OUT OF THE SEVEN. IS THAT WHAT YOU'RE SAYING?

>> YES. HOWEVER, ALL OF THESE JURISDICTIONS ARE ELIGIBLE TO VOTE.

I CAN'T SHOW YOU THAT THE COUNTY HAS VOTED.

THEY VOTED LAST MONDAY AND THEY PUT THAT THEY SPLIT THEIR VOTES AND THEY VOTED FOR MR. COOPER AND MR. WATTS, WHO HAVE BEEN THE REPRESENTATIVES FOR A FEW YEARS.

AND THE SEA OF BURKE AND BERK ISD HAVE AWESOME VOTING FOR THEIR COMEDY, WHICH IS MR. KIANA.

SEA HAS VOTED TODAY.

I WAS AFTER MEETING, BUT SINCE THEY WENT INTO SPECIAL SESSION, I WENT TO A SPECIAL SESSION.

>> DOES THIS NEEDS TO BE DONE IN CLOSED SESSION OR?

>> NO..

>> SO WITH YOU ALL WOULD TO DISCUSS HOW YOU.

>> YES. SO I WOULD LIKE PERSONALLY DISPUTES WITH JEFF TAYLOR.

JEFF IS IS A GOOD FRIEND OF MINE.

NO, JEFF AND IT WORKED WITH HIM FOR 20 PLUS YEARS.

HE IS A MAN OF INTEGRITY.

HE IS A THOUGHTFUL PERSON, AND WHEN I SAY THOUGHTFUL, I DON'T MEAN VIDEOS, I MEAN, HE'S A THINKING MAN WHO THINKS THROUGH THE ISSUES.

>> ABSOLUTELY.

>> I JUST CONSIDER HIM A SOMEBODY I CAN FIND HIM, BUT SOMEBODY LET TRUST.

I WOULD LIKE TO SEE US SUPPORTING NOW THAT'S TAKING NOTHING THAT WE CAN BORROW.

WE ALL KNOW THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS THAT HE'S HAD AS MIRROR AND THEN AS CHAIR OF THE PRESIDENT, I GUESS, OF THE SMAC, ACCOMPLISHED IN AS REPRESENTATIVE WICHITA FALLS.

WELL, I WOULD LIKE TO SEE US SUPPORT JEFF TAYLOR.

>> IS THIS BOARD IF THESE WILL BE PEOPLE THAT HEAR THE COMPLAINTS OR NO.

LIKE WHAT DOES THIS BOARD DO?

>> THIS BOARD IS MORE ADMINISTRATIVE.

WHAT THEY DO OR ADMINISTRATIVE ACTIVITIES THAT HAD AN APPRAISER, THEY APPROVED THE BUDGET, APPROVED APPRAISAL CONTRACTS.

THAT TOP OF ACTIVITIES.

THE APPRAISAL REVIEW BOARD, THEY'RE THE ONES WHO GET TO LISTEN TO YOU.

>> SO THIS THIRD PERSON, BOND TAYLOR AND WHO WAS THE THIRD?

>> BOSTON COOPER. MR. COOPER IS THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AT TEXTS. I'M A CHRISTIAN HERE.

>> MR. HARVEY, GOOD COMMENTS?

>> YEAH, I AGREE WITH MR. THOMPSON HALL, HARD ON THOSE GUYS FOR A LONG TIME A GO.

DIDN'T MARRY THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND UNDERSTAND THAT THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE PEOPLE.

AGAIN, NOT TO TAKE ANYTHING AWAY FROM ANYBODY ELSE GOT I DON'T KNOW.

BUT I CAME BACK FOR THOSE TWO. I AGREE.

I THINK THEY'RE EXCELLENT CHOICES.

HOW WE DIVIDE OUR VOTING SHARE, I HAVE NO IDEA.

THAT'S A WHOLE ANOTHER QUESTION WE NEED.

[00:40:02]

>> YOU CAN VOTE FOR NUMBER 1, 2, 5, 0.

>> SO WE COLLECTIVELY HAVE THIS VICTIM, 15 AND 25 THAT FOR GLENN AND AFTER THAT, BUT YEAH,.

>> ABSOLUTELY.

>> THAT'S WHAT I'D RECOMMEND, IS I DON'T KNOW.

>> ANY COMMENT?

>> MAY I TAKE ELLSBERG WHOLEHEARTEDLY AT THE WEATHER.

WAS THERE A THIRD THAT RESIDES [INAUDIBLE] WE DON'T KNOW.

HE'S BEEN VOTED ON BY THE COUNTY, AND QUITE HONESTLY, THE MATH OF THIS, HE WILL BE ON WORK REGARDLESS OF THE ACTION.

>> HERE WE GO.

>> FEEL LIKE THE MOTION.

>> OKAY. [LAUGHTER] I BELIEVE THAT 40 MILLION IS PART OF THE RECOMMENDATION ON THE TABLE.

>> IS THERE A SECOND?

>> IN THAT MOTION IS 50 PERCENT OF OUR VOTES TO BORROW MONEY, 50 PERCENT TO TAILOR? I'LL SECOND.

>> MRS. ROBBINS, ME TOO.

[LAUGHTER].

>> ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR SAY, AYE.

>> AYE.

>> ALL THOSE OPPOSED SAME SIGN.

PASSES 6-0.

[BACKGROUND] [LAUGHTER] WE'RE GOING TO GET BACK ON TRACK NOW, AND WE WILL ASK MRS. HORTON TO JOIN US.

[BACKGROUND]

>> I MAKE A MOTION THAT WE APPROVE THE FINANCIAL REPORTS AS PRESENTED.

>> SECOND.

>> THERE YOU GO.

>> MOTION AND SECOND.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FOR MRS. HORTON? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR SAY AYE.

>> AYE.

>> ALL THOSE OPPOSED, SAME SIGN.

PASSES 6-0.

MOVING ON TO BUDGET AMENDMENTS.

[V.B. Budget Amendments]

>> IT'S THE ADMINISTRATIVE RECOMMENDATION THAT THE WICHITA FALLS INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF TRUSTEES APPROVE THE ATTACHED BUDGET AMENDMENTS TO THE 23/24 BUDGETS AS DETAILED ON THE ATTACHED BUDGET AMENDMENT REPORT.

THESE AMENDMENTS ARE SUBMITTED BY LEAH HORTON, CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER AND RECOMMENDED BY DR. DONNY LEE, SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS.

BUDGETED FUNDS THAT ARE TRANSFERRED BETWEEN FUNCTIONS AS WELL AS INCREASES AND DECREASES TO THE DISTRICT'S LEGALLY ADOPTED BUDGET REQUIRE BOARD APPROVAL IN THE FORM OF A BUDGET AMENDMENT.

FOR THE GENERAL OPERATING AMENDMENTS, WE REPORT NO CHANGE IN EXPENDITURES REFLECT AN INCREASE OF $1,655,219, RESULTING IN A DEFICIT BUDGET OF $2,685,219.

THAT IS THE $1,000,000 SHOWN DEDUCTIBLE AND THEN ONETIME PAYMENT TO FULL-TIME STAFF OF $1,655,219.

FOOD SERVICE REVENUES AND EXPENDITURES REFLECT AN INCREASE IN EXPENDITURES OF $2,367,979, RESULTING IN DEFICIT BUDGET OF $2,140,080 DOLLARS, AND THAT IS THE EXCESS FUND BALANCE IS FINISH YOUR PLAN TO RENOVATE SEVERAL CAMPUSES THAT YOU ALL APPROVED LAST MONTH.

>> SOME OF THIS HAS ALREADY BEEN APPROVED AND SOME IS COMING FROM THE FUND BALANCE?

>> WE'LL SEE THESE CHANGES IN THE REPORT.

>> I HAVE A MOTION TO ACCEPT THESE BUDGET AMENDMENTS?

>> I MAKE A MOTION THAT WE ACCEPT THE BUDGET AMENDMENTS.

>> I'LL SECOND.

>> THANK YOU.

>> ALTHOUGH IT'S SOMETIMES PAINFUL TO TAKE FROM OUR FUND BALANCE, WHICH MOST OF US WOULD CALL OUR SAVINGS ACCOUNT, WE'RE THANKFUL TO BE ABLE TO GIVE $1,000 TO OUR STAFF AND WE NEED TO UPDATE SOME KITCHENS AND WE'RE THANKFUL TO GET TO DO THAT.

IT'S SOMETHING WE NEED TO DO, I THINK, SO I THINK WE ALL AGREE.

[00:45:02]

SO ALL THOSE IN FAVOR SAY, AYE.

>> AYE.

>> THOSE OPPOSED, SAME SIGN, NAY.

PASSES 6-0. ONTO SPENDING MORE MONEY.

[V.C. Bond FFE Purchases]

>> IT'S THE ADMINISTRATIVE RECOMMENDATION THAT THE WICHITA FALLS INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF TRUSTEES APPROVE THE PURCHASE OF BOND FF&E FOR LEGACY AND MEMORIAL HIGH SCHOOLS TO BUSINESS INTERIORS FOR A TOTAL AMOUNT OF $6,386,202.23, AS SUBMITTED BY LEAH HORTON, CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER, AND RECOMMENDED BY DR. DONNY LEE, SUPERINTENDENT SCHOOLS.

PROCESS OF FURNITURE SELECTION FOR THE NEW HOSPITALS BEGAN IN APRIL 2021 WITH DISTRICT LEADERSHIP ESTABLISHING A TEAM TO DEVELOP THE VISION FOR THE FF&E OF THE NEW HOSPITALS AND TO RESEARCH AVAILABLE OPTIONS TO PROVIDE FOR AN ATTRACTIVE AND ENGAGING ENVIRONMENT FOR STUDENTS AND STAFF.

THE TEAM OBTAINED INFORMATION FROM OTHER DISTRICTS AS WELL AS TOWARD OTHER DISTRICT PROJECTS RECENTLY COMPLETED AND VENDORS WERE IDENTIFIED AND REVIEWED THROUGHOUT THE PROCESS THAT LED TO THE UTILIZATION OF A SINGLE VENDOR, BUSINESS INTERIORS.

I'D LIKE TO ADD THAT THERE WERE TWO PILOTED CLASSROOMS THAT ARE UP, THREE.

>> TWO PER CAMPUS.

>> TWO PER CAMPUS.

ROY HAD FURNITURE BROUGHT IN, STUDENTS AND STAFF EVALUATING, USED FOR A YEAR, WE SAW THE DURABILITY OF IT, AND THEN WE DECIDED ON BUSINESS INTERIORS.

>> PERFECT. WE NEED A MOTION FOR THIS ALSO, AND THIS IS MONEY IS COMING FROM?

>> BOND FF&E, AND IT IS BUDGETED.

>> SO IS THERE A MOTION TO ACCEPT THIS PROPOSAL?

>> I MAKE A MOTION THAT THE WFISD SCHOOL BOARD OF TRUSTEES APPROVED PURCHASE OF BOND FF&E FURNITURE FOR LEGACY AND MEMORIAL HIGH SCHOOLS TO BUSINESS INTERIORS FOR THE AMOUNT OF $6,386,202.23.

>> I THINK THAT THERE WAS TALK AND THERE WAS CONCERN THAT WE WOULD NOT BE HAVING NEW FURNITURE.

I THINK THE PUBLIC SHOULD BE THRILLED THAT BOTH SCHOOLS WILL BE NEW FURNITURE AND NEW FIXTURES AND NEW EQUIPMENT, AND IT'S A LOT OF THAT HAS TO DO WITH OUR LEADERSHIP AND STAFF THAT'S MADE THAT HAPPEN.

SO WE ALL APPRECIATE THIS SHAKING THE TREES AND FINDING THE MONEY, I THINK.

ANY OTHER COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR SAY AYE.

>> AYE.

>> ALL OPPOSED, SAME SIGN.

PASSES 6-0. MISS HORTON, YOU'RE STILL UP

[V.D. Purchase of Amplify Curriculum]

>> YES. IT'S THE ADMINISTRATIVE RECOMMENDATION THAT THE WICHITA FALLS INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF TRUSTEES APPROVE THE PURCHASE OF AMPLIFY CURRICULUM FROM AMPLIFY AND THE AMOUNT IN $430,182.50 ESTIMATED BY LEAH HORTON, CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER, AND RECOMMENDED BY DR. DONNY LEE, SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS.

AMPLIFY CURRICULUM WAS IMPLEMENTED WITH NO CHARGE PAID BY TEA FOR THE FIRST THREE SCHOOLS, WHICH INCLUDED SOUTHERN HILLS, BURGESS, AND BOOKER T. WASHINGTON.

THIS QUOTE IS GOING TO INCLUDE THE PURCHASE FOR SCOTLAND PARK, ZUNDY, FAIN, CUNNINGHAM AND FRANKLIN, AND THIS IS BEING PAID BY A DONOR TO [INAUDIBLE] FULL COST.

>> THAT IS A GENEROUS DONOR.

>> YES, THAT IS A GENEROUS DONOR.

>> THIS IS FOR FUTURE ACTION SO ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS? DOES THIS NEED TO BE VOTED ON MONDAY?

>> YES, MA'AM.

>> LET'S NOT PUT IT ON CONSENT THAT THEY [INAUDIBLE]

>> YOU NEEDED MORE INFORMATION ABOUT [INAUDIBLE].

>> YEAH.

>> MR. ROBERT, WE'RE JUST WAITING ON HIS VISUAL AWARD LETTER AND IT SAYS WE GET THAT KNOWLEDGE.

>> THANK YOU.

>> YES, SIR.

>> OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS ON THAT THAT YOU WOULD WANT FOR MRS. HORTON FOR MONDAY, I THINK WE'LL BE GOOD.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THERE'S MORE THINK?

[V.E. Construction Method for Hirschi Refresh/Repairs]

>> IT'S ADMINISTRATIVE RECOMMENDATION THAT THE WICHITA FALLS INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF TRUSTEES REVIEW THE CONSTRUCTION METHODS AND DESIGNATE THE METHODOLOGY TO UTILIZE FOR THE REFRESHING REPAIRS IN HERSHEY HIGH SCHOOL AS SUBMITTED ALL THE IMPORTANT CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER AND RECOMMENDED BY DR. DALIA AND THE SUPERINTENDENTS SCHOOL.

REFRESHED AND REPAIR PROJECTS AND SEEING 50,000 ARE CONSIDERED CONSTRUCTION, PRIORITY ADVERTISING THE BOARD SHALL DETERMINE THE PROJECT DELIVERY CONTRACT AWARD METHOD TO USE FOR EACH CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT VALUED AT OR ABOVE 50, 000 AS PER POLICY SEE LOCAL.

WE HAVE GIVEN YOU THE LIST OF OPTIONS FOR CONSTRUCTION METHOD, THE DISTRICT IS RECOMMENDING DESIGN-BUILD CBE,

[00:50:02]

AND THIS IS GOING TO BE TO PREPARE HERSHEY HIGH SCHOOL TO BECOME A MIDDLE SCHOOL SO IT'S ALL THE RENOVATIONS AND REPAIRING THAT THEY SUBMITTED TO DO.

THIS IS JUST AN APPROVAL AS TO THE METHODOLOGY OR HOW WE'RE GOING TO BE ABLE TO PROCURE THE REPAIRS AND REFRESH.

>> IT'S NOT AS COMMON A METHOD, LET'S SAY CONSTRUCTION MANAGER AT RISK OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. IS THAT WHAT WE'RE SAYING?

>> YES.

>> WILL WE BE DOING THIS WORK IN HOUSE OR WE SUBBING IT OUT?

>> WE'LL BE DOING ALL THE ABOVE.

BIT OF A MIXTURE OF ALL THE PAINTING, ALL THE CEILING TILES, ALL THE LIGHTS, THOSE ARE FIBROBLASTS ARE CONTRACTED TO DO WE'LL IDENTIFY CERTAIN AREAS THAT OUR GUYS WE'LL BE REDRAWING BEFORE SCHOOL.

>> DOES THIS HAVE A DOLLAR AMOUNT THAT WE INTEND TO SPEND?

>> WE JUST DESCRIBE YOUR 50,000.

>> AS EACH ITEM REPAIRED IS BEING PROCURED WHO WILL BRING TO YOU AS PER A DISTRICT POLICY AND FOREIGN POLICY TO BRING TO YOU FOR APPROVAL.

BUT IF IT'S SOMETHING WHERE WE'RE GOING TO PAINT AND THERE'S A LIGHTING AND WHATNOT THAT NEEDS TO TAKE PLACE THAT SOME OF OUR MAINTENANCE GUYS CAN DO IT THEN WE'LL GO AHEAD AND DO IT.

BUT WE HAD TO HAVE THE METHODOLOGY OF THE CONSTRUCTION.

>> WE'RE NOT APPROVING A DOLLAR AMOUNT BUT WE WILL BE APPROVING A DOLLAR AMOUNTS.

ALONG WITH THAT?

>> WE'LL BE DOING WALKTHROUGHS AND SO WE USED TO KNOW WHAT LAST WEEK WHERE WE HAD TO EVERY SINGLE CLASSROOM IDENTIFY WHAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND SO WE NOW HAVE LISTS SO THAT WE CAN DO AN RFP ON THAT, IS THAT THIS IS WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR AND THEN WE'LL SEE WHAT WE GET.

>> ARE WE CHANGING CONFIGURATION IN HERSHEY AT ALL?

>> WE'RE NOT CHANGING ANY WALLS BECAUSE IT'S ALL PAINTING TILES [OVERLAPPING]

>> COSMETIC?

>> NINETY NINE PERCENT.

>> WE CAN DO AN OPPORTUNITY TO IMPROVE THE BUILDING OFF OF [INAUDIBLE] IN THERE AS FAR AS ANY INFRASTRUCTURES IS CONCERNED?

>> NOT REALLY ON INFRASTRUCTURE BUT MAINLY JUST ROUTED THROUGH FENCING, PAINTING, THINGS OF THAT NATURE.

NOT TEARING DOWN ANY WALLS, ADDING WALLS, NOTHING LIKE THAT.

>> BUT WE THINK THE INFRASTRUCTURE IS FINE.

>> WE DO THINK SO.

>> NOT AVOIDING FIXING IT.

>> THAT'S CORRECT THE BUILDING LOOKS GOOD.

>> WE HAD A CHANCE TO DO SO.

>> YOU'VE IDENTIFIED A ROOF AREA, WE JUST DID THAT TODAY BUT NOTHING LIKE STRUCTURAL WALLS.

>> THIS IS A FUTURE ACTION OR DO YOU ALL WANT THIS ON THE CONSENT AGENDA OR WOULD YOU LIKE THIS TO BE VOTED ON MONDAY?

>> CONSENT.

>> WE'LL PUT THAT ON THE CONSENT AGENDA.

[OVERLAPPING] WE'RE EXCITED TO HEAR TODAY FROM JEFF HILL,

[VI. SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION]

AND SOME PRINCIPALS TO TALK ABOUT ARE AMPLIFIED CURRICULUM OUR NEW READING CURRICULUM THAT TEA HELPS SUPPORT WITH US TO BRING THIS TO WICHITA FALLS AND WE STARTED IT IN THREE SCHOOL SO FAR AND WE'RE GOING TO HEAR FROM THOSE SCHOOLS TODAY AND WE DO WANT TO THANK TEA FOR HELPING US AND FOR REACH NINE, HELPING US ROLLED OUT AND IMPLEMENT. WE LOVED THESE PARTNERS.

>> ABSOLUTELY. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK TO YOU TODAY ABOUT THE DATE AND HOW THINGS ARE GOING WITH OUR [INAUDIBLE] MUTATION, I AM VERY FORTUNATE TODAY TO BE JOINED BY SOME FRIENDS AND SUPPORTERS FROM REGION 9.

THANK YOU WESLEY AND SHAMED FOR A YEAR WITH US, AS WELL AS THE THREE CAMPUS PRINCIPALS FROM BURGESS, BUKKATI AND SOUTHERN HILLS, SO I MISS ANYTHING THEY WILL [INAUDIBLE].

I WANT TO TAKE YOU THROUGH THIS IMPLEMENTATION IN A CHRONOLOGICAL WAY TO START US OUT WITH.

NINE MONTHS AGO WE STARTED IN MARCH PRIOR TO SPRING BREAK WITH THIS PLANNING CONVERSATION AND MEETING STARTING AT REGION 9 THAT INVOLVE ALL THE STAKEHOLDERS, SO WE DID HAVE REPRESENTATIVES THERE FROM TEA, WE HAD REPRESENTATIVES THERE FROM OUR THIRD PARTY VENDOR MAYA WHO WE HAVE BEEN MEETING WITH FREQUENTLY TO ASSISTING THROUGH THE IMPLEMENTATION PROCESS AS WELL AS SEVERAL REGION 9 AND STAFF MEMBERS AS WELL.

FROM THERE WE THEN TOOK IT TO THE CAMPUS LEVEL AND WE MAKE CAMPUS LEVEL PRESENTATIONS, SOUTHERN HILLS VERSUS SIMPLE CURRENCY OR WE VISITED WITH TEACHERS, ESTABLISHED FAQS AND THEN STARTED TO ROLL OUT THAT PARENT LETTER THAT WAS SENT HOME OF EACH OF OUR STUDENTS.

FROM THERE THEN WE MOVED ON TO A TRAINING ADMINISTRATORS AND LEADERS AT EACH CAMPUS ON RVS, RESEARCH-BASED INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES FOR ROA, SO THAT OUR LEADERSHIP WAS AWARE OF THE BEST AND MOST CURRENT PRACTICES IN READING INSTRUCTION.

FROM THERE WE RECONVENED WITH MY REPRESENTATIVES, WHICH IS THE PROCESS THROUGH TO HELPING US TO THE PROCEDURAL PIECE WHICH GAVE US THIS VISION FOR IMPLEMENTATION WHICH SHOULD SAY OUTLINE THE STEPS THAT WE WOULD FOLLOW IN THIS IMPLEMENTATION.

AT THAT POINT THEN IN APRIL, REGION 9 AND MYSELF WILL MEET EVERY TWO WEEKS WITH ROCHELLE WHO

[00:55:05]

IS MY REPRESENTATIVE OF GET GOING THROUGH AND PROGRESS MONITORING ALONG THE WAY, PLANNING, MAKING SURE THAT WE CROSS EVERY [INAUDIBLE].

FROM THERE THEN OUR CAMPUS ADMIN AND LEADERSHIP TEAMS HAVE FULL DAY OF AMPLIFYING TRAINING BROUGHT TO US FROM THE ACTUAL COMPANY FROM HIM HE CAME TO GIVE US THAT TRAINING OVERVIEW.

THEN IN JUNE AND JULY IT WAS THE TEACHERS TURN, AND SO WE DID A BACK-TO-BACK DAY WHERE THE TEACHERS TOOK PART IN DAY ONE, WHICH WAS THE ARMY'S TRAINING, WHICH WAS THE BEST PRACTICES AND PARLAY INSTRUCTION.

THEY HAD THAT FOR DAY ONE, AND THEN FOR DAY TWO, WE TURNED AROUND AND HAD THE FULL DAY AMPLIFY TRAINING, WHICH IS VERY SIMILAR TO WHAT WE HAD PREVIOUSLY HAD MADE THE ADMINISTRATORS, NOW THAT WHAT WE WERE ABLE TO BREAK UP WITH TEACHERS AND STAFF BY GRADE LEVEL AND DEPARTMENT SO WE HAD LIKE OUR BILINGUAL TEACHERS TOGETHER, WE HAD K12 TEACHERS TOGETHER, WE HAD OUR THIRD GRADE TEACHERS IN A ROOM, FOURTH GRADE IN THE ROOM.

THAT TOOK US FORWARD INTO STARTING OUT THE SCHOOL YEAR.

MY BIGGEST FEAR FROM THIS WHOLE THING GOING THROUGH AND JUST FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE IS THAT ALL OF THE PLANNING WHEN THINGS BREAK, BUT THE MATERIALS DON'T.

IT REALLY STUMPS THINGS.

AUGUST 4TH TO THE H INTERESTS THROUGH THE WAREHOUSE AND HIS TEAM WERE ABLE TO GET EVERYTHING DELIVERED TO THE CAMPUSES, WHICH SHE INFORMED ME WAS KNOWN SMALL TIME.

WE WERE A LITTLE LATER IN THAT ORDERING PROCESS LAST YEAR, THE NUMBER OF THINGS IN OVER 3,000 BOXES.

WHICH SOUNDS CRAZY BECAUSE YOU ASSUME THESE BIG BOXES, THEY CAME AND LEFT SHOE BOXES [LAUGHTER].

THAT WAS A LITTLE BIT UNDERWHELMING AS FAR AS THE BOX IS COMING, BUT IT WAS A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT TO BRING IN TO BARCODE TO SEPARATE IT OUT TO THE CAMPUSES.

THAT WAS A HUGE RELIEF FOR TEACHERS TO COME BACK TO THEIR CAMPUS AND NOT HAVE THEIR MATERIALS.

THEIR FORELIMB IS HUGE.

AT THAT POINT, THEN WE STARTED TO ADMINISTER SOME BEGINNING OF YOUR SURVEYS TO TEACHERS AND STAFF, TO OUR LEADERS, AS WELL AS THE SEE, HOW ARE THINGS GOING SO FAR? WHERE'S OUR CHECKPOINT? SO HOW HAS OUR SUMMER TRAINING PREPARED YOU TO START THIS SCHOOL YEAR? I'LL SHARE A LITTLE OF THAT IN THE MOMENT.

THEN FOR DISTRICTS HAVE DEVELOPMENT, IN AUGUST, WE WERE ABLE TO COORDINATE THE HEALTH AND SUPPORTIVE REGION, NOT THOSE THREE CAMPUSES HAVING VERY SPECIFIC TRAINING TIED TO IMPLEMENTATION AS THEY BEGIN THEIR YEAR.

IT WASN'T JUST SIMPLY HERE YOUR BOOKS, GOOD LUCK ON THAT FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL.

SO THAT PROCESS STARTED WITH AUGUST THE 10TH DISTRICT STAFF DEVELOPMENT.

WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO REPLICATE THAT SAME LEVEL OF SUPPORT DURING SEPTEMBER CHITCHAT DEVELOPMENT.

WE WILL ALSO BE ABLE TO DO THAT FOR FEBRUARY EDITION CHAPTER DEVELOPMENT.

BEING ABLE TO GIVE THOSE CAMPUSES SPECIFIC TRAINING THAT WOULD BE TIED TO EXACTLY WHAT THEY ARE DOING VERSUS LUMPING THEM INTO THE BIG GREW.

FROM THERE WE ALSO STARTED THIS TEAL VIA PROCESS.

TLS, TEXTS, INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP.

HE HAS MATERIALS INTERNALIZATION, ALIGNMENT.

SO THIS RUNS THROUGH TRACING PATRICK, BUT REGION NOT.

THIS IS TRAINING FOR OUR SCHOOL LEADERS AND SO WE ALL TOOK PART IN THAT AT THE END OF AUGUST, WHICH IS AGAIN, JUST A DEEP DIVE INTO THE CURRICULUM, BUT ALSO IN BEST PRACTICES AND REALLY HIGH-LEVERAGE STRATEGIES FOR IMPLEMENTING THE CURRICULUM AS WELL.

THEN WE STARTED THE YEAR AND THE PLAN WAS FOR THE FIRST SIX WEEKS THAT THE REGION NON-STAFF WOULD BE LEADING, SUPPORTING, AND RUNNING THOSE WEEKLY PLCS WITH EACH GRADE LEVEL ON EACH OF THE CAMPUSES.

DIFFERENT CAMPUSES HAD DIFFERENT PEOPLE ASSIGNED TO THEM AND THEY WERE THEY WERE CHECK-INS EVERY WEEK.

CURRENTLY, WE ARE CONDUCTING MONTHLY WALKTHROUGHS.

ARE YOU GETTING THIS? THAT WOULD INCLUDE EVERY MEMBER OF THE TEAM.

SO WE HAVE REGION ONSET MICHELLE FALSTAFF, STAFF WHO ARE CONDUCTING THESE WALK-THROUGHS.

WE WERE AT BOOKER T LAST FRIDAY, WE REPORTED JUST YESTERDAY WILL BE AT SOUTHERN HANDLES ON THURSDAY.

THESE WILL CONTINUE ON PROGRESS THROUGH THE YEAR AS WELL.

THIS HAS LED BY TRACY PATRICK, THAT REGION NOT AND THIS IS A PART OF THAT TO CROSS THAT.

TEACHERS HAVE ALSO BEEN TRAINED IN THE USE OF T-BAR, WHICH IS THE STAR SYSTEM WHERE THE ASSESSMENT OCCURS.

AMPLIFY HAS THEIR ASSESSMENTS BUILT INTO THAT PROGRAM AS WELL.

TEACHERS ALL HAVEBEEN TRAINED ON NOT JUST THE ADMINISTRATION OF ASSESSMENTS WITHIN THAT PROGRAM? BUT ALSO HOW TO PULL DATA FROM THEM.

WE HAVE NOW TRANSITIONED FROM A WAFER REGION NINE STAFF LEADING THOSE PLCS TO OUR OWN CAMPUS THAT ARE INSTRUCTIONAL COACHES FACILITATE THAT PROCESS.

THEN JUST A COUPLE WEEKS AGO WE COMPLETED REGION ON THAT SAME GROUP THAT MET BACK IN MARCH LAST YEAR.

MET AT THE END OF OCTOBER, HAS WHAT THEY CALL A MIDDLE OF THE YARD KIND OF STEP BACK.

WHAT WE DID IS WE EVALUATED THE PLAN THAT WAS IN PLACE.

WE LOOKED AT, AT POINTS OF IMPACT AND POINTS OF CONCERN,

[01:00:01]

AREAS OF GROWTH THERE ILLUSTRATE.

THEY READJUSTED THEM FOR GOOD POINTS AT THAT POINT THERE.

WE HAD EVERYONE IN THE SAME ROOM NURSE, AND HAD LOTS OF DIFFERENT AREAS AND DEPARTMENTS.

WE'RE ABLE TO ALL GET ON THE SAME PAGE AT THAT POINT.

MY SAR IS WHAT'S NEXT? WHERE ARE WE GOING? SO WE'VE JUST RECENTLY TAKEN ON ANOTHER COMPONENT OF THAT PROCESS, THAT TYPE OF LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT, LEADERSHIP GROWTH THROUGH STUDENT WORK ANALYSIS PROTOCOL CALLED THE SWAP PROTOCOL.

OUR CAMPUS INSTRUCTIONAL COACHES HAVE BASICALLY, BEEN TAKEN THROUGH THIS PROCESS OF HOW YOU SET THE SUCCESS CRITERIA FOR UPCOMING ASSIGNMENTS.

REVIEW THOSE ASSIGNMENTS WITH YOUR TEACHERS TO EVALUATE AND DEVELOP AND LOOK FOR TRENDS AND PATTERNS TO BE ABLE TO INFORM FUTURE INSTRUCTION.

IT WAS SUCH AN IMPACTFUL TRAINING AND PRESENTATION THAT WE'VE REALLY LOOKED TO SPAN THAT, BRANCH IT OUT FOR OTHER CAMPUSES AS WELL BECAUSE IT'S JUST THAT IT'S REALLY BEST TO BEST PRACTICE.

IF SOMETHING ISN'T SPECIFIC, JUST AN AMPLIFIED CURRICULUM.

WE WILL BE BEGINNING OF OUR MONTHLY PRINCIPAL SETBACKS AS WELL.

WE START ON FRIDAY WITH THIS CONTRACT AND THE THREE CANVAS PRINCIPLES.

WE WILL CONTINUE THESE MONTHLY INSTRUCTIONAL ROUNDS AT EACH OF THE CAMPUSES.

THE PLCS ARE NOW BECOMING MORE TARGETED.

IN THE SENSE THAT THEY'RE MOVING MORE AWAY FROM LESSON PLANNING AND UNIT PLANNING, IS THAT WHAT YOU'RE TEACHING? NOW WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO, AS WE GO THROUGH THE DIFFERENT WALKTHROUGHS AS WE'VE GONE ON, ESTABLISHED SPECIFIC NEEDS AT EACH CAMPUS.

THAT'S WHERE THE PLC PROCESS WILL COME INTO PLAY FOR THAT GROWTH AND IMPROVEMENT.

ONE OF THE FINAL COMPONENTS THAT WE HAVE TO ROLL OUT IS LESS THAN REHEARSAL.

AS A MOVIE TO FEBRUARY DISTRICT SITE DEVELOPMENT, THAT'S ONE OF THE BIG COMPONENTS THAT WILL LIKELY BE COMING UP AT THAT TIME.

THIS IS WHERE TEACHERS ARE ABLE TO REHEARSE AND PRACTICE THROUGH LESSON COMPONENTS PRIOR TO DELIVERING THEM.

IT'S SOMETHING A LITTLE AWKWARD.

I COULDN'T IMAGINE THREE PEOPLE WHO SIT IN A ROOM AND PRACTICING, TEACHING BASIC.

THE BEGINNING SOUNDS AND SOUND ARE PARTS OF THE LESSONS, BUT THIS IS A CONNECTION PIECE WITH TILDE AS WELL.

IT'S OUTLINED A LOT OF REALLY GOOD PRACTICES THAT WE'VE BEEN THINKING PART OF.

THE MONTHLY CHECK-INS WITH REASON NON-STOP WILL BECOME NOW MORE OFTEN DEPENDENT UPON EACH OTHER, CAMPUSES NEEDS, SO THOSE WILL STILL CONTINUE.

THEN I THINK THE GOLD, SO WHO IS THE STARTING BONDING AND SOME OF THESE POTENTIAL CAMPUSES FOR NEXT YEAR TO JOIN US ON THESE ROUNDS SO THAT THEY CAN SEE WHAT IT IS THAT THEY ARE GETTING INTO FOR UPCOMING YEARS.

AS FAR AS DATA THAT WE HAVE SO FAR, AFTER THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR AND AFTER WE AFTER SHE JUST GOT SO FAR IN THE PREPARATION PHASE OF MATERIALS PLANNING, WE SURVEYED THE TEACHERS, WE SURVEYED THE CANVAS PRINCIPLES AND INSTRUCTIONAL COACHES.

FROM THIS ARRAY HERE, ASKING TEACHERS JUST THE FOUR BASIC QUESTIONS OF OVERALL, HOW COMFORTABLE DO YOU FEEL THAT THIS IMPLEMENTATION, AND THEN BREAKING IT UP INTO EACH OF THOSE COMPONENTS.

I THINK LET'S PAUSE THERE FOR ONE OF THE TEACHERS THAT THEY GAVE WAS SUM THAT UP.

IT SAYS, I DON'T REALLY KNOW HOW TO REPAIR.

I KNEW UNTIL I ACTUALLY START TO DO IT.

I THINK THAT WAS REALLY RELEVANT AS WE'VE GOTTEN INTO IT AND SEE THAT SOMETIMES YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW UNTIL YOU ACTUALLY TRY IT.

THEN FROM OUR LEADER SURVEY DATA, THOSE SCORES ARE A LITTLE BIT LOWER THAN WHAT WE SAW FROM THE TEACHERS AND SEVERAL OF THE INSTRUCTIONAL COACHES HAVE SAID, YOU KNOW, ONE GRADE LEVEL, TWO GRADE LEVELS, THAT'S FINE.

WHEN I THINK ABOUT ALL SIX, I GET OVERWHELMED.

I COULD SEE WHY THOSE SCORES ALREADY REFLECTED IN THOSE NUMBERS.

THEN A GREAT QUOTE FROM ONE OF OUR CAMPUS PRINCIPALS TO UNDERSTAND THE PROCESS THAT I JUST FEEL A LITTLE BIT OVERWHELMED, BRING ALL THE RIGHT LEVELS.

THEN AS FAR AS THE DATA THAT WE HAVE SO FAR, WHAT I WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT I WAS REALLY CAREFUL WITH DOING HERE IS ALLOWING THESE TWO THE SAME DAY THAT YOU JUST HEARD FROM THE SNATCH.

AS FAR AS THE CHECKPOINTS HERE, AS STUDENTS WHO ARE READING AT OR ABOVE GRADE LEVEL.

EACH OF THOSE GRADES IN EACH OF THOSE CAMPUSES, YOU WOULD SEE RATHER THAN THE DISTRICT NUMBERS HERE AND YOU WOULD SEE A CANVAS NUMBERS.

THE GOAL WAS NB FOR UPDATE.

THE NEXT FEW MONTHS AFTER WE HAVE MIDDLE OF THE YEAR DATA TO SEE THAT HOW HAS THE TIER ONE INSTRUCTION, HOW IS THE CURRICULUM IMPACTED OUR OVERALL STUDENT GROWTH? TOO MANY TIMES I THINK DATA POINTS RELY ON THE SYSTEM OF THE DATA POINTS.

NOW WE'RE WANTING TO SEE SOMETHING THAT'S OVERALL AND TO SEE HOW THE CURRICULUM HAS IMPACTED YOUR STUDENTS AS A WHOLE.

>> THIS WILL BE MAPPED THAT CORRECT?

>> CORRECT. THEN AS FAR AS GRADES 3-5, WE WOULD LOOK AT THOSE STUDENTS WHO ARE SCORING AT MEATS OR ABOVE.

THE HOPE WOULD BE THAT I'M ABLE TO COME BACK AND UPDATE.

YOU CAN SHOW THAT THE SCORES AREN'T TRENDING UPWARD AS A RESULT OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THIS PROGRAM.

>> WITH THE EXCEPTION OF GOOD NOT MEET.

>> CORRECT. THOSE EMBRYONIC WANTED TO SEE TRENDING MUCH LOWER.

THESE WOULD BE OFF AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR PROJECTIONS.

THE GOAL IS TO SEE HOW INSTRUCTION AND STAR VERSUS ANYTHING ELSE.

[01:05:05]

SO I THINK KEEPING YOUR EYE ON THE FURTHEST AND THE BEST PRIZE THERE.

HOW DOES EVERYTHING THAT WE USUALLY APPEAR IMPACT ULTIMATELY THE FINAL SCORE?

>> THIS IS THIS YEAR'S?

>> CORRECT, USUALLY THIS YEAR TO YEAR PROJECTION.

>> THAT'S REALLY HELPFUL. I REMEMBER TELLING ME.

>> SURE. THAT'S IT. ANY QUESTIONS, COMMENTS, OR FEEDBACK THAT YOU IMMEDIATELY THINK, SALONDE?

>> ARE YOU PLANNING ON THE NEW SCHOOLS THAT IMPLEMENT THIS NEXT YEAR, DOING THE SAME PROCESS?

>> YEAH, I THINK THAT'LL BE THE GOAL.

I THINK THAT OBVIOUSLY FROM THE FEEDBACK THAT WE'VE RECEIVED, SO FOR EXAMPLE, IN DAY 2 OF THE TEACHER TRAINING THIS SUMMER WE BROUGHT, AMPLIFY SET US UP WITH THEIR PEOPLE.

THAT WAS VERY UNDERWHELMING, THIS I BELIEVE BECAUSE.

>> I HEARD THAT.

>> IN TEXAS, IT'S AMPLIFY TEXAS, THE SNEAKERS THAT WE HAD, ONE WAS FROM OKLAHOMA.

THEY TAUGHT AMPLIFY, BUT THEY TAUGHT THE CORE VERSION OF AMPLIFY.

EVERYONE'S EXPERIENCES WERE VERY DIFFERENT.

YES, THEY CAME FROM AMPLIFY TO TRAIN US.

BUT THAT IS SOMETHING THAT WITH OUR SETBACK THAT WE DID WITH THE WHOLE GROUP, THAT WHILE WE DISCUSSED THE WAY BACK IN THE SUMMER.

WE SAID ARE WE GOING TO FIGURE THIS OUT? THAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED IN AUGUST, DSD, THE REASON ON SPECIALISTS THAT WE HAVE TODAY ARE GOING TO SPEAK ON SOME OF THE THINGS THAT WEREN'T SO GOOD ABOUT THAT TRAINING THAT WE HAD BACK IN JUNE.

THE GOAL FOR THIS EXTRA REPEAT, THE REASON OUR SPECIALISTS WOULD BE ABLE TO PUSH THAT OUT.

I THINK I MIGHT DO THAT IN MY TRAINING IN-HOUSE.

>> THANK GOODNESS FOR WAY TO KNOW.

>> LOTS OF STRONG SUPPORT.

THEY ARE VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE PEOPLE.

>> I'LL ALSO READ, SO RIGHT AFTER THE NEXT YEAR.

WITH YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF THIS AMPLIFY, DO YOU THINK THOSE GOALS WERE PRETTY RELAXED?

>> ALL SYSTEMS SHOULD BE SET UP FOR A 100 PERCENT OF STUDENTS TO MEET THOSE GOALS.

WE WOULD NEVER SET OURSELVES UP TO 70 PERCENT OR 80 PERCENT OF STUDENTS SHOULD READ SOMETHING BECAUSE THAT WOULD SHOW A DEFICIT OF THE SYSTEM.

THIS CURRICULUM, THE WAY THAT WE ARE DOING INTERVENTION AND IMPLEMENTATION, EVERYTHING SHOULD BE SET UP THAT A HUNDRED PERCENT OF THE STUDENTS WILL ANSWER THE QUESTIONS CORRECTLY.

NOW, WILL THAT HAPPEN? MAYBE NOT, BUT I THINK WHAT WE SHOULD SET UP IS FOR THAT SYSTEM TO BE PLACED IN THAT WAY.

EVERYTHING THAT WE'RE SEEING, EVERYTHING THAT IS COMING OUT OF THAT IS IMPRESSIVE.

IT'S VERY HIGH LEVEL AND THAT'S ONE OF THE THINGS FROM THE ARMY TRAINING THAT WE LEARNED IS THAT STUDENTS EXPOSURE TO GRADE LEVEL MATERIAL IS ACCELERATED IN THE MOST REGARDLESS IF THEY ARE BELOW GRADE LEVEL OR NOT.

THEY ARE STILL GOING TO BENEFIT MORE FROM HAVING THAT RIGOROUS EVERY DAY SYSTEMATIC INSTRUCTION THAN IF WE WERE TO WATER IT DOWN.

I THINK THAT WE'RE MEETING IT AT ANOTHER LEVEL.

>> THANK YOU. FROM THE SURVEY WHERE YOU SAID THAT FIVE OUT OF 10.

>> SURE.

>> THEY GOT A FIVE OUT OF 10 FOR CAMPUS LEADERS TAKING ON THE TRAINING.

>> A SCALE OF 1-10, HOW COMFORTABLE DO YOU FEEL NOW? HOW DO YOU FEEL DOING THIS?

>> WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MOVE THAT NUMBER UP?

>> A LOT OF THAT WOULD BE THROUGH THE WORKERS ENDEAVOR THAT ARE TAKING PART IN IT RIGHT NOW AND IT'S THE FAMILIARITY WITH ALL OF THOSE PROCESSES.

THE BIG ANSWER TO THAT QUESTION IS GOING TO BE WHAT TRACY PATRICK IS WORKING WITH OUR PRINCIPLES WITH, WHICH IS THAT TO BEING A PIECE, THAT TAKES IN INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP, WHERE IT'S ABOUT HOW DO LEADERS BEST IMPLEMENT THESE CURRICULUMS THAT THEY'RE HANDED.

>> DO WE THINK THAT THE TRANSITION FROM REGION 9 DOING THE PLCS TO THE CAMPUSES DOING THE PLCS, ARE WE SEEING CONTINUITY OR ARE SOME CAMPUSES STRONGER THAN OTHERS AND SO IT'S NOT CONSISTENT AS OPPOSED TO REGION 9 [OVERLAPPING] BEING CONSISTENT?

>> IN THE FIRST SIX WEEKS, THE REGION NOW AND SUPPORT WAS CRUCIAL BECAUSE I THINK IT WAS GREAT NEWS.

IT WAS VERY MUCH CENTERED AROUND MAKING SURE AND HELPING TEACHERS UNDERSTAND THE PROCESS OF PLANNING SO THAT WHEN THEY WALK INTO THAT CLASSROOM ON MONDAY MORNING, THEY FEEL REALLY COMFORTABLE WITH THE LESSONS THAT THEY'RE ABOUT TO PRESENT.

I THINK OUR CAMPUS PRINCIPALS AND THE INSTRUCTIONAL COACHES WERE HERE, THEY WOULD GO AROUND AND SAY, YEAH, BECAUSE THAT'S OUR FAVORITE DSD.

THE TEACHERS ARE NOW COMING TO THOSE PLCS WITH THAT INFORMATION, THAT PROCESS, IT'S VERY SUCCESSFUL.

NOW THE PLC LOOKS VERY DIFFERENT FROM WHAT IT DID AT THE BEGINNING.

NOW PACING WAS SOMETHING THAT WAS A TOPIC FOR US.

THAT WAS DIFFERENT ACROSS CAMPUSES AND EVEN ACROSS GRADE LEVELS AS WELL.

QUESTIONING HAS COME UP AS A BIG PLC TOPIC AT CERTAIN CAMPUSES AS THEY WORK THEIR WAY THROUGH THE TEXT.

I THINK THE FIRST SIX WEEKS WERE VERY DIFFERENT PLCS, BECAUSE IT WAS ABOUT WORKING YOURSELF THROUGH THE MATERIALS, WORKING YOURSELVES THROUGH THE LESSON STRUCTURE TO UNDERSTAND WHAT COMPONENTS SHOULD BE A PART OF EACH ONE.

NOW THAT'S REALLY TRANSITIONED INTO MORE GENERAL BEST PRACTICES.

I THINK THE FIRST SIX WEEKS, IT WAS LITERALLY, THIS IS THE WORKBOOK FOR THIS.

BEING IN CONTRARY WITH KIDS WHERE FOR SO LONG WE DIDN'T HAVE THESE THINGS.

IT'S HAVING TO NAVIGATE AND ORGANIZE WHICH ONE IS YOUR KNOWLEDGE BOOK, YOUR SKILLS BOOK.

[01:10:05]

THERE'S A LOT OF STUFF NOW THAT GOES ALONG WITH IT.

THAT WAS A BIG PART OF THE FIRST SIX WEEKS.

>> WHICH I THINK TAKES ME TO THE QUESTION OF RECEPTION, HAVE TEACHERS AND PRINCIPALS.

I HOPE WE CAN HEAR FROM THE PRINCIPLES TODAY HERE ON WHAT'S THE, ONE OF THE FEARS WHEN YOU DO THIS IS TEACHER PUSH-BACK, BECAUSE SOMEBODY MAY HAVE BEEN TEACHING A LONG TIME, WHAT, THEIR SYSTEMS, BEING A MOBILE COMMUNITY, JUST FOR THE PUBLIC SECTOR.

WE WANT EVERY SCHOOL TO BE BASICALLY ON THE SAME PAGE SO IF THE CHILD MOVES TWO OR THREE TIMES DURING THE YEAR, THEY WILL STILL NOT MISS ANYTHING.

HOW HAS THAT WORKED FOR US?

>> TO SHARE ANYTHING FROM YOUR WORK?

>> FOR SOME, THIS WORKED REALLY WELL BECAUSE OUR TEACHERS ARE ABLE TO INTERNALIZE THE LESSONS AND THEN ALL BE ON THE SAME COMMON PIECE.

FOR US ADMINISTRATORS GOING IN TO EVALUATE IF THE TEACHERS WERE ABLE TO ASSESS THE OVERALL LESSON IN KNOWING THAT WE'RE WALKING IN FROM D14 TO D13.

WE'RE SEEING THE SAME LESSON BEING TAUGHT, WHICH THEREFORE, LENDS ITSELF THAT THE TEACHERS SHOULD BE ABLE TO COLLABORATE EFFECTIVELY, HAVE THE SAME COMMON LANGUAGE WITHIN THE LESSON BECAUSE THEY'RE ALL AT THE SAME PACE.

IT'S BEEN REALLY WELL RECEIVED WITH OUR TEACHERS IN OUR CAMPUS AND WE ARE ENTIRELY GRATEFUL FOR THE SUPPORT THE REGION HAD.

WE COULD NOT HAVE DONE THIS EARLY AND BEEN INVESTED AS MUCH WITHOUT THEIR ASSISTANCE AND GUIDANCE THROUGH OUT THE ENTIRE PROCESS.

>> THAT'S A GOOD QUESTION. I'LL BE ABOUT AS FAR AS TEACHER SUBMISSIONS, MAYBE YOU HAVE A STORY OR ANY EXPERIENCE WHEN YOU SAW THAT AND THEN HOW WAS THAT?

>> YES, EVERY MEMBER OF MY CAMPUS, THEY WERE JUST GLAD TO HAVE SOMETHING SO THAT THEY DIDN'T SPEND A LOT OF THE PERSONAL TIME CORRECTING.

I'M NOT SAYING MAYBE TO TEACHERS.

THEY WERE JUST VETERAN TEACHERS AND IT WAS JUST, I KNOW WHAT I'M DOING RIGHT NOW.

WHY DO I NEED THIS? BUT JUST AS WE GOT SOME COMMONALITY GO IN AND REGIONAL COMMANDER IN PLCS AND JUST GETTING EVERYONE ON THE SAME PAGE.

ONCE THEY DOVE INTO THE MATERIALS AND JUST STARTED IMPLEMENTING, IT'S FINE.

MAYBE THE BEGINNING 4-6 WEEKS JUST GETTING READY.

>> I THINK WHEN IT STARTED OFF, I HAD ONE ONE PARTICULAR GRADE THAT I WAS WORRIED ABOUT, BUT AS THEY ALL BECAME TOGETHER, COMING TOGETHER, NOW YOU'RE LIKE, GREAT.

I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT HOW YOU'RE GOING TO TEACH THE SOUND OF A PARTICULAR LETTER.

NOW ONE OF THE TEAMS WAS SAYING, OH, I'M SEEING SOME OF MY KIDS ARE ACTUALLY NOW LEARNING EARLIER THAN WHERE THEY WOULD SEE THAT AT THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR. THAT IS GREAT.

>> DO YOU THINK THE CURRICULUM ITSELF IS GREAT? GOOD. I WANT IT TO ACTUALLY PROMOTE FOR.

>> NOTHING IS EVER GOING TO BE PERFECT.

NOTHING IS EVER GOING TO MAKE EVERYONE HAPPY ALL THE TIME.

WHEN WE LOOK AT EVALUATING LESSON BY LESSON AND SEE THE LEVEL OF COMPLEXITY, THE NUANCES OF THINGS THAT ARE GLUED TOGETHER AND HOW ITS SCOPE AND SEQUENCE OUT, IT IS VERY IMPRESSIVE AS FAR AS THE LEVEL OF RIGOR AND THE THINGS THAT KIDS ARE TALKING ABOUT.

YESTERDAY IN A THIRD GRADE READING AND HEARING KIDS TAUGHT ABOUT CONVEX AND CONCAVE LENSES AND THE WAY THAT THEY SPEAK VERY ELOQUENTLY AND COMPLETE SENTENCES ABOUT THINGS THAT TAKE YOU BACK A LITTLE BIT.

I THINK HAVING SOMETHING THAT ESTABLISHES RIGOR VERSUS TEACHERS CLICKING THROUGH THE INTERNET TO SAY, THAT LOOKS LIKE SOMETHING I COULD DO WITH MY KIDS.

HAVING THAT PIECE ALONE AND HAVING SOMETHING THAT HAS SET THE STANDARD HAS BEEN HUGE.

NOW TO YOUR POINT ABOUT HAS? ABSOLUTELY, THERE WAS RESISTANCE AND I THINK THAT EVERYONE KNOWS ABOUT IT.

[LAUGHTER] ANYTIME YOU'RE GOING TO SHARE, OUR CONVERSATION YESTERDAY WAS EVERY TEACHER IS ALMOST A FIRST-YEAR TEACHER.

I SAID, I CAN'T WAIT FOR THESE TEACHERS WHO DID IT THIS YEAR TO DO IT AGAIN NEXT YEAR BECAUSE EVERYTHING'S A LITTLE BIT AWKWARD THE FIRST TIME YOU DO IT.

I REMEMBER, FOR US TO JUST WALK THROUGH THOSE LESSONS AND TO SEE THEM, SOMETIMES I FEEL SHE'S BEING REALLY CRITICAL OF THIS COMPONENT.

THE LEVEL OF COMFORT THAT TEACHERS MUST FEEL WHEN THEY DO THINGS A SECOND TIME NEXT YEAR, I THINK WILL BE HUGE.

THEY ALWAYS SAY YOUR SECOND YEAR OF TEACHING IS A 100 PERCENT BETTER THAN THE FIRST YEAR OF TEACHING.

I'M REALLY EXCITED TO SEE SOME OF THE SAME TEACHERS DO THIS AGAIN FOR NEXT YEAR.

BUT WAS EVERYONE FULLY GOING HOME ON BOARD?

[01:15:02]

I THINK I SAID YES, IT'S NICE TO HAVE THE MATERIAL, BUT SOMETIMES IT'S ALSO NICE TO HAVE THE AUTONOMY.

THAT'S WHAT CHALLENGES IT.

THE BIG CHALLENGE IS GOING TO BE TWO THINGS.

NUMBER 1 IS, ARE WE SEEING THE RESULTS OR THE STUDENTS PROGRESSING THE WAY THAT THEY SHOW.

THEN NUMBER 2, IS THE CURRICULUM MEETING THE NEEDS OF THE STUDENTS.

THE TEACHERS FEEL THAT AS WELL.

THERE'S A LITTLE BIT OF EDUCATION THAT GOES ALONG WITH THAT, WHICH IS WHY THE AUDIT WAS VERY IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND WHY WE'RE DOING THIS.

OF COURSE, ALL OF OUR TEACHERS HAVE BEEN TRAINED IN THE READING ACADEMY AS WELL, TA REQUIREMENTS.

A LOT OF THAT NOW DRIVES HOME WHY WE DID THAT.

I'M REALLY CURIOUS TO HEAR THIS AND THAT CROWD OF TEACHERS GO THROUGH READING ACADEMY HAVE DONE SOME OF THIS TRAINING OF THEIR PAPERS.

THEY'RE GOING TO SAY, WE DO THAT.

VERSUS WHEN WE FIRST WENT THROUGH ANY OF THAT LIKE THEY DON'T HAVE THE SYSTEMS IN PLACE, THE SUPPORT, SOME OF THE THINGS THAT WE'RE HEARING YOUR BEST PRACTICE.

IT IS A LIVING DOCUMENT, IT'S A LITTLE BIT OF THAT.

TA PURCHASED THE CURRICULUM, WHICH WAS A NATIONAL CURRICULUM, WE'RE CURRENTLY PURCHASING FROM AMPLIFY, BUT IN A COUPLE OF YEARS WE'RE GOING TO PURCHASE FROM ONE OF THE REASONS SERVICE CENTERS IN TEXAS, BECAUSE THEY PURCHASED IT, THEY WILL TWEAK IT AS I SEE FIT.

PROBABLY NOT SO MUCH THAT REQUIRES ADDITIONAL PURCHASES.

BUT YEAH, AND I THINK THAT IT HAS SHOWN US SOME THINGS THAT WE'VE TRIED TO REPLICATE IN OUR OTHER 11 CAMPUSES JUST IN LESSON STRUCTURE AND THE WAY THAT SO MUCH CONTENT IS WHAT WE PUT IT ON, WHAT IS BEING PUSHED OUT TO THESE STUDENTS IS PRETTY REMARKABLE.

>> I PERSONALLY THINK IT'S A GREAT IDEA TO INCORPORATE THE NEXT FIVE SCHOOLS IN THIS NEXT SEMESTER SO I'S NOT JUST ALL BRAND NEW TO STUDENTS.

I APPRECIATE YOU-ALL DOING THAT.

THE OTHER THING I WANTED TO ASK IS DOES REGION 9 HAVE ANY COMMENTS YOU-ALL WOULD LIKE TO MAKE? I KNOW WE'RE THANKFUL TO YOU-ALL FOR PARTICIPATING WITH US IN THE TRAINING.

WE'D LOVE FOR YOUR OPINIONS OR INSIGHTS.

>> WOW, I JUST ECHO WHAT JEFF SAID ABOUT WE ANTICIPATED FISH BACK AND SO AS OUR FECAL AS WE WERE PREPARING THEM TO GO OUT AND WORK WITH YOUR PEOPLE, WE DID.

SHANE AND I DUG THE BOARD OF DIRECTOR HAD CONVERSATIONS WITH THEM AROUND.

YOU'RE GOING TO ENCOUNTER RESISTANCE, ARE PEOPLE WHO HAVE COME BACK TO US SAYING, IS I'VE BEEN A VERY PLEASANT SURPRISE THAT THEY'VE ENCOUNTERED WHEN CALLED FISH BANKS AS MUCH AS MAYBE CONCERNS OR QUESTIONS ABOUT THE CURRICULUM BECAUSE OF HIS BRANDING IS VERY REGULAR, RIGOROUS, AND IT'S VERY CUMBERSOME.

THE PARTNERSHIP HAS BEEN FANTASTIC.

WE HAD ENJOYED IT.

OUR STAFF THAT IS WORK ON THIS PROJECT HAS REALLY ENJOYED IT.

BUILT GREAT RELATIONSHIPS WITH CANVAS PRINCIPALS AND TEACHERS.

THEY LOOK FORWARD TO CONTINUE AS WE ADD THE CAMPUSES.

OUR STAFF AS [INAUDIBLE] HAS BECOME EXPERTS IN CRITICAL SO MUCH TO THE POINT THAT WE SAID, WE CAN DO IT BETTER.

[NOISE] WE'VE SEEN THAT HAPPEN, LIKE GONE BACK AND TRIED TO CORRECT THOSE IN EARLY MAY, THE FEET ON THE GROUND.

IT IS A VERY INTENTIONAL PROCESS TO DO GRADUAL RELEASE WITH YOUR CAMPUS LAYERS AND THE TEACHERS, THAT'S FINE.

THE BEGINNING ART WAS LEADING THOSE VOCS PROCESSES, BUT THE WHOLE GOAL WAS TO BE ABLE TO GET OUT OF YOUR WAY SO THAT WE CAN TRAIN, AND BUILD COMPETENCE AND THEN STEP ASIDE AND LET YOU OFF.

IT WAS A LEARNING EXPERIENCE FOR OUR STAFF ALSO BECAUSE THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME WE HAVE BEEN ANYTHING LIKE THAT IN PLAY AS WELL.

BUT OUR STAFFS, LIKE NIKKI SAID, IT'S BEEN PLAYED, YOU'RE WORKING WITH YOUR GRADE AND THEIR RECEPTIVE AND OPEN THE DOORS FOR IT.

IT HAS JUST BEEN A PLEASURE.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO IT.

THAT NEXT GROUP, AS IT COMES THROUGH IN THE BIG BENEFITS HERE ARE KIDS GETTING WHAT THEY NEED AND LIVING GORDON ABLE TO TURN THOSE TABLES AROUND, ESPECIALLY IN SOME OF THOSE LOW-PERFORMING, THEY JUST LOOK FORWARD AND CAN'T WAIT TO SEE RESULTS FROM ALL OF THE WORK.

WE SAW THAT [INAUDIBLE] THANK YOU.

I'LL JUST SAY ONE MORE THING.

REGION ON THE WEEKEND, LIKE 16 DISTRICTS IMPLEMENTING AMPLIFY OR THE MATH CURRICULUM.

I THINK YOU'LL LEARN A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT LATER ACROSS THE REGION.

IT LOOKS A LITTLE DIFFERENT.

WE'RE DOING NOT THE SAME DEPTH SUPPORT AND MANY OTHER DISTRICTS IN THE REGION, BUT VERY SIMILAR PROCESS.

>> ANY OTHER COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS?

>> MY ONLY COMMENT OR QUESTION WOULD BE, I KNOW WE DON'T HAVE THE RESULTS AND THE PROOF IN THE PUDDING, SO TO SPEAK? OR DO WE HAVE ANY ANECDOTAL STORIES THAT YOU CAN SAY AS PRINCIPLES THAT WE'VE SEEN.

[01:20:02]

WE'RE SEEING THESE KIDS REALLY CHANGED.

>> I CAN TELL YOU THAT CONVERSATION WITH STUDENTS AND TALKING ABOUT THINGS THAT I'VE NEVER HEARD THAT, WOW MY CULTURE AND JUST THEY'RE, THEY'RE EXPOSED TO SO MUCH MORE WITH THE CURRICULUM.

IT FILLS THE PLAYING FIELD IS BEING LEVELED.

WERE SOME STUDENTS HAVE A GREAT YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH DIFFERENT CULTURES AND TRAVELING AND ALL OF THAT.

IT'S INCLUDED IN THE CURRICULUM.

I'VE JUST JUST BEING HEARING AND BEING PART OF THE CONVERSATIONS WITH STUDENTS ABOUT JUST THINK THEY JUST [INAUDIBLE]

>> JUMP IN HERE. FOR EXAMPLE.

THIS IS SOMETHING THAT ALWAYS STUCK WITH ME.

WHEN IT COMES DOWN TO FIVE, FOR EXAMPLE, FIRSTLY, WHEN YOU WERE DOING A UNIT ON THAT BODY SYSTEM.

GENERALLY WHEN YOU HEARD ABOUT IT'S APPEARING UNTIL MAYBE LIKE A GREAT NIGHT RAID, LEARNING ABOUT YOURSELF AND THAT'S ANOTHER STUFF.

THAT'S WHAT THE ALLEGEDLY INCARCERATED OR WHEN THEY'RE FIRST REASON WE'RE WALKING DOWN THE HALL AND YOU CAN SEE A SKELETON WHICH IS THE UNIT THAT THERAPY IS DOING MANDATE AND SEE, THEY ARE EXCELLENT.

IT'S OFTEN THE STOMACH IS ACCORDING TO THE PI SYSTEM, ON A SKELETON.

FOR ME THAT'S THE CONNECTION IS GENERALLY WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT IT? THEY WOULD NOT HAVE HAD THAT EXPOSURE.

THEY WOULDN'T HAVE HAD IN THE PROPERTY UNTIL MIDDLE SCHOOL.

THE OTHER THING THAT ROSS WAS TALKING ABOUT IS THE ATMOSPHERE.

FOR EXAMPLE, ONE OF THE QUESTION I DIDN'T WANT TO TEACH AT ASKS, WHO ALL HAVE HERE THE TOP TWO KIDS WHO READ THE ANSWER RIGHT THERE.

I SEND THE VIDEO OF ME IN THE AIRPLANE, THAT STUFF.

THAT WAS LIKE A BIG CONVERSATION THROUGH THE KNOWLEDGE.

HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN? HOW DOES IT GO? IT'S A SITUATION THAT YOU'RE EXPOSING KIDS ALREADY 11, PAY A FEE FOR EVERYONE.

WE'RE IN OUR EXPORTS THAT EVERYTHING I'M READING THAT BOOK [INAUDIBLE]

>> ONE OF THE TAKE AWAYS FROM THE OVERALL PROCESS HAS BEEN IN THE WRITING PROCESS.

BECAUSE THERE ARE CRITICAL QUESTIONS THAT REALLY ENCOURAGE OUR STUDENTS TO THINK IN A MORE ADVANCED LEVEL.

THAT'S BEEN ONE OF THE BIGGEST CHALLENGES FOR STUDENTS OVERALL.

BUT IT'S ALSO BEEN BEAUTIFUL TO BE ABLE TO SEE HOW THE WRITING IS TAKING OFF.

EVEN STARTING IN KINDERGARTEN AND SEEING FLOURISHES ARE MAKING THEY SAY, LAUGHING, I'M GOING TO GO APOLOGIZE TO MY CLASS FROM LAST YEAR BECAUSE I DIDN'T CHALLENGE THE HOUSEHOLDS THAT I NEED TO BE ABLE TO HELP THROUGH THIS WHOLE PROCESS.

I'M EXCITED TO SEE THE END RESULTS UNDER OUR TIMELINE BECAUSE IT'LL BE BEAUTIFUL.

WE CAN JUST CONTINUE TO BUILD THAT SAM, THAT ESPECIALLY WITH THE RISE FROM IT.

>> INTERESTING.

>> [BACKGROUND] THE COMMENTS [OVERLAPPING]

>> WE'VE TALKED ABOUT THIS IN DEPTH.

IT'S WHEN WE SAY KIDS CAN'T READ.

OFTENTIMES WE THINK IN LITERAL TERMS, BUT THEY CAN'T READ 3 AND 4 LETTER WORDS OF A SENTENCE.

IN REALITY, WHAT YOU'RE HEARING IS KIDS AREN'T EXPOSED TO THINGS, THEREFORE, THEY CAN'T ANSWER THE QUESTIONS.

I SAW STARWOOD LEAST QUESTION LAST YEAR THAT DEALT WITH THE GAME OF CRICKET.

WITH YOU'VE NEVER BEEN EXPOSED OR READ OR KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE GAME OF CRICKET.

HOW CAN YOU ANSWER THE QUESTIONS THAT BOTHER WITH? DISLIKED THE PRINCIPLES MENTIONED THAT THOSE EXPOSURE TO THE EXOSKELETON OR WHATEVER IT IS, NOW THEY'RE EXPOSED TO IT, THEY UNDERSTAND IT, THEY SEE THE QUESTION, THEY CAN ANSWER THOSE QUESTIONS.

THIS CURRICULUM IS VERY RIGOROUS.

IT HAS CUMBERSOME, BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY, IT PREPARES THEM NOT ONLY FOR THE TEST, BUT REAL LIFE SITUATIONS THAT WE COME UPON.

WHAT I'VE SEEN AND WHEN I WALKED INTO ALL THOSE CLASSROOMS ON FRIDAY, I ALWAYS DO THE INFANT CLASSROOMS. THERE ARE SOME VERY INTERESTING CONVERSATIONS.

INITIALLY, VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE REGION.

>> TO SPEAK ON BEHAVIOR.

OBVIOUSLY IT IS A HOT BUTTON.

I THINK THAT IS ALL THAT HAS BEEN ONE OF THE BIG INITIAL FINDINGS IS THAT AS WE GO ON THESE MONTHLY WALK THROUGH, WE'RE NOT EXPERIENCING INTERRUPTIONS AND BEHAVIORS FROM STUDENTS TO THE ENGAGEMENT.

A LOT OF THINGS THAT CAN HELP IMPROVE STUDENT BEHAVIOR, BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE IS THE ENGAGEMENT AND WHAT THEY'RE DOING SOMETHING.

WE HAVE NOTICED REALLY STRONG, POSITIVE BEHAVIORS AT THE THREE CAMPUSES WHERE THIS IMPLEMENTATION AS WELL.

THAT'S BEEN A BIG BENEFIT.

THAT WOULD BE AN INDIRECT BENEFIT OF JUST KIDS WHO ARE EXCITED TO LEARN ABOUT.

BUT SHE WOULD NOT NECESSARILY BE THE CASE THAT, WHEN YOUR PERUSAL TOPIC WAS.

>> MOSTLY BLUE SELF-ESTEEM, IT'S ENHANCED.

>> THE ONLY THING I'M DISAPPOINTED IN HERE MEANS THAT IT'S DEFINED AS CUMBERSOME.

BUT I GUESS THE NO PAIN, NO GAIN OR LOSS A LOT INTO THAT CATEGORY AND HOPEFULLY THIS MAZE FOR TEACHERS,

[01:25:04]

BECAUSE WE CERTAINLY DON'T INTEND TO CREATE ANYTHING MORE CUMBERSOME. BUT IT'S JUST ONE.

>> THE WORK AND THE EFFORT IS SPENT IN A DIFFERENT AREA IN THE PAST WHERE YOU ARE DELIVERING THE LAST ONE HE PREPARED.

I'M PRETTY EXCITED ABOUT THE WORK THAT IT TAKES TO INTERNALIZE THE LESSON THAT'S BEEN GIVEN TO YOU IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THAN THIS TONGUE TIP.

K1,2, 3 CLASSES OR 2 HOURS ON INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIAL.

THEN SOMETIMES, WE FOUND THAT HAVING A 2-HOUR WINDOW TO TEACH 2 HOURS OF CONTENT IS TO REQUIRE MORE AND MORE OF THE LAW. MY KIDS ARE GETTING ON.

>> [BACKGROUND] TO THE SHORELINES OF NATURAL AND CREATE A LITTLE BIT.

>> I JUST FIND MYSELF DOING SO GRATEFUL, GRATEFUL FOR YOU, GRATEFUL FOR OUR PRINCIPALS, GRATEFUL FOR OUR TEACHERS BECAUSE THIS IS GOING, YOU GUYS MAKE IT SEEM EFFORTLESS.

I KNOW HE SAID, IT'S THIS AND THIS, BUT WE DON'T KNOW ALL THE SPECIFICS, BUT I KNOW THIS IS TOUGH, BUT I JUST I JUST I JUST SO APPRECIATE IT BECAUSE WE WANT OUR KIDS TO EXCEL AND TO DO GREAT THINGS AND TO BE EDUCATED AND THANK YOU SO MUCH I'VE BROKEN THE BOTTOM OF MY ARTISTS TO EVERYONE GETS RAISED TO TELL YOU THAT TEACHERS THAT BECAUSE I REALLY DO LIKE MY HEART JUST FULL ROUTE AS YOU LIKE UH.

FINALLY, WE'VE GOT SOMETHING.

IT'S REALLY HARD, BUT I'M JUST SO GRATEFUL.

I HOPE THERE'S A LOT OF EXCITEMENT.

I HOPE YOUR NUMBERS ARE TERRIFIC.

REALLY WEIRD.

APPRECIATE YOUR WORK AND YOUR EFFORTS TOWARD THEIR SUCCESS.

ANY OTHER COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS? DOES THAT MAKE SENSE? THIS IS A PRESENTATION ONLY AND WE APPRECIATE ALL THE DIFFERENT FULL BRIDGE.

I APPRECIATE YOU.

[BACKGROUND] MRS. HARAWAY IS AFTER THIS IS A REPORT FORMALLY.

THIS DOES REQUIRE ACTION.
