LET THE RECORD REFLECT THAT A QUORUM OF THE BOARD IS PRESENT WHERE THE MEETING HAS BEEN RECALLED AND NOTICE OF THE MEETING HAS BEEN POSTED FOR THE TIME AND IN THE MANNER REQUIRED BY LAW.

IT'S MY PLEASURE TO WELCOME EACH OF YOU TO THIS SPECIAL SESSION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES.

PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT THIS IS A MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES HELD IN PUBLIC, ANOTHER MEETING OF THE PUBLIC.

THIS TIME, WE HAVE A PRESENTATION FOR PROJECT BACK-TO-SCHOOL SEASON FOR SALES AND LANCE IS GOING TO MAKE PRESENTATIONS.

I'D LIKE TO SAY THANK YOU FOR YOU GUYS FOR SERVING AND DOUBT TO BE SOME KIND OF PRESENTATION ITSELF SO THANK YOU FOR SURE.

BUT THAT'S NOT WHY I'M HERE.

I WANTED TO RECOGNIZE THE LADY THAT REALLY DESERVES A LOT OF RECOGNITION.

THE INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF TRUSTEES RECOGNIZES CHERYL RITCHIE ON THE PROJECT BACK-TO-SCHOOL COMMITTEE FOR THEIR IMPACT ON THE STUDENTS, THE WICHITA FALLS ISD AND SUBMITTED AND RECOMMENDED BY HIGHER SUPERINTENDENT, DR. CONNIE LEIGH IN 2009, CHAIR WHERE HE FORMED A PROJECT BACK-TO-SCHOOL AS A WAY TO HELP DISADVANTAGED STUDENTS IN OUR COMMUNITY BY PROVIDING THEM WITH CUSTOM SCHOOL SUPPLY KITS AND BACKPACKS EACH YEAR BEFORE THE START OF A NEW YEAR.

THE PAST 15 YEARS, AS 15, THAT'S A TEENAGER.

I DON'T BLAME YOU FOR PASSING THAT ON.

PROJECT BACK TO SCHOOL HAS PROVIDED BACK-TO-SCHOOL SUPPORT FOR THOUSANDS OF STUDENTS, AND FAMILIES IN OUR COMMUNITY.

ON OCTOBER 1ST, PROJECT BACK-TO-SCHOOL EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR CHERYL RITCHIE OFFICIALLY RETIRED AND HAS HANDED THE PROJECT OVER TO, I'M GLAD TO SAY WICHITA FALLS ISD FOUNDATION BOARD.

WE MET DISCUSSED IT AND VOTED ON TAKING IT OVER.

THAT'S HOW BRILLIANT THIS LADY WAS.

SHE WASN'T GOING TO WAIT FOR SOMETHING TO HAPPEN.

SHE MADE SURE THAT THE PROJECT IS GOING TO KEEP GOING ON. THANK YOU FOR THAT.

NOW, TO BE OVERSEEN BY OUR BOARD AND THE PROJECT BACK-TO-SCHOOL COORDINATOR WILL BE MY STANDARD, LILLIAN HARRIS.

DECEMBER OF 2021, I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO GO INTO THE FOOD BUSINESS AND ANYWAY.

[LAUGHTER] ALL THAT BEING SAID, SHE CALLED AND ASKED IF I WOULD BE THE INTERIM AND I TOLD HER I WOULD, SO AUGUST 28, I STEPPED FOOT ON CAMPUS AND JUST STARTED LOOKING AROUND JUST OBSERVED ON THAT MONDAY.

THEN MONDAY EVENING AFTER THE KIDS DISMISSED, I SAT DOWN WITH SOME OF THE STAFFS THAT'S THERE AND WE VISITED.

ON DAY 2, WE STARTED MAKING CHANGES.

THE FIRST THING WE DID WAS CHANGE UP THE CAFETERIA PROCEDURES.

AS MUCH GROWTH AS THE KIDS MADE, THERE'S STILL SOME BOUNDARIES THAT NEEDED TO BE SENT IN THE COMMON AREAS.

WE IMPLEMENTED SOME STRUCTURAL CHANGES AND SOME BOUNDARIES FOR THE KIDS ON DAY 2 AND WE WORKED AND, WORKED AND, WORKED AND, WE SAW SOME CHANGE WE'VE SEEN SOME SIGNIFICANT CHANGE AS FAR AS ATTITUDES AND RULES ARE GOING.

THAT'S WHERE WE STARTED. IF YOU'RE FAMILIAR WITH THE KIRBY CAMPUS FOREVER, IT WAS A ONE-WAY IN THE HALLWAYS, AND THAT CHANGED THIS YEAR.

WELL THEN WHEN I WAS THERE AND SAW THAT THEY WERE GOING BOTH WAYS, WE HAVE TRAFFIC JAMS, THE KIDS WERE ALL GATHERING IN HIGH TRAFFIC AREAS.

A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO, WE MADE THAT TRANSITION AND WE MOVED THEM TO GOING ONE WAY.

MOST OF THE KIDS THANKFULLY, LIVED THAT PATTERN LAST YEAR, SO IT DIDN'T TAKE LONG FOR THEM TO GET BACK IN THAT ROUTINE.

THAT ALLOWED US TO ADDRESS THE TARDY ISSUES THAT WE HAD MOVED TO IN CLASSES.

THE KIDS WANT TO HANG OUT.

THERE'S A LOT OF BLIND SPOTS ON THE KIRBY CAMPUS.

THOSE KIDS LIVES IN A HURRY.

SO WE'RE WORKING ON SOME PROCEDURAL CHANGES AND WORKING ON OUR TARDY AND ATTENDANCE.

WE ARE IN THAT RISK COORDINATOR, MR. RONNIE WILLIAMS, SOME OF YOU PROBABLY FAMILIAR WITH HIM.

BUT THE FOURTH DAY I WAS THERE, MR [INAUDIBLE] INVITED HIM TO COME UP AND HE GOT OUT OF HIS TRUCK, JUMPED IN AND WE STARTED TO MOVE MUST BE TOGETHER.

IN ABOUT THE SIXTH DAY, I ASKED IF THERE WAS A WAY WE COULD GET HIM HIRED AND GET HIM ON BECAUSE JUST THE WAY HE WORKS AND WHERE HE DEALS WITH THE KIDS, IT'S REALLY GOOD, SO WE'RE VERY FORTUNATE TO HAVE HIM BACK.

WE CHANGED SOME THINGS UP.

I SAY WE CHANGED IT, SOMETIMES WE CHANGED BEFORE I GOT THERE AS FAR AS CLASSROOM SETTINGS.

WE'VE MODIFIED THAT, WE HAD TWO SCIENCE CLASSROOMS THAT WEREN'T USED FOR SCIENCE CLASSROOMS. I UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY TRIED TO DO, THEY TRY TO MAKE A SIXTH GRADE WING AND SEVENTH GRADE WING AND EIGHTH GRADE WING.

BUT IT TOOK TWO SIDES, LABS OUT OF THE ROTATION.

BEING AN [INAUDIBLE] SCHOOL PA COMES IN AND LOOKED AT THEIR FIRST LANGUAGE.

WHEN I ASK, HOW COME YOU'RE NOT HAVE THAT SCIENCE IN THIS CLASSROOM? WE ARE NOW IN SCIENCE CLASSROOMS. WE HAD SOME SURPLUS TEACHERS IN THE DISTRICT, AND WE'D BEEN FITTED WITH A SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHER IN A MATH TEACHER.
