I HEREBY CALL TO ORDER THIS MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES.

LET THE RECORD REFLECT THAT THE MEETING HAS BEEN CALLED.

AT THAT FORM OF THE BOARD IS PRESENT, THAT THE MEETING HAS BEEN DULY CALLED, AND NOTICE THAT THE MEETING HAS BEEN POSTED FOR THE TIME IN THE MANNER THAT IS REQUIRED BY LAW.

I APPRECIATE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK WITH YOU REGARDING THE [INAUDIBLE] OR COLLEGE SUMMER PROGRAM.

I WANTED TO SAY THANK YOU TO DOCTOR LEE AND ALL OF THE BOARD MEMBERS FOR YOUR SERVICE TO OUR STUDENTS AND THE COMMUNITY.

THE ROAD TO COLLEGE SUMMER PROGRAM IS PART OF THE CAFE ORGANIZATION.

THIS SUMMER WE HAVE 83 STUDENTS FROM THE DISTRICT.

ALL OF THEM WERE SELECTED.

RANGING FROM SIXTH GRADE TO HIGH SCHOOL.

THESE STUDENTS COMPLETED OUR SIX WEEKS RIGOROUS ACADEMIC CURRICULUM AT THE MSU DEALER BUILDING, WE HAVE THE ENTIRE 3RD FLOOR LOWER SOUTH.

MSU HAVE BEEN AN AMAZING PARTNER AND SO AS VERNON COLLEGE.

THESE STUDENTS FROM 6TH, 7TH AND 8TH GRADE, REVIEW THE STANDARDS AND OBJECTIVES.

THEY WILL BE TAUGHT THIS ACADEMIC YEAR IN THE AREAS OF MATH AND ENGLISH.

AT THE HIGH-SCHOOL LEVEL, THE STUDENTS RANGE FROM 9TH -11TH GRADE.

IN LOWER HIGH-SCHOOL STUDENTS A STUDY AND PRACTICE FOR THE SAT EXAM.

ALL OF THESE STUDENTS WHO GRADUATED FROM A WORK PROGRAM TO A PRE AND POST-TEST.

THESE INFORMATION HAD BEEN SHARED AND I WOULD REVIEW THE DATA WITH YOU.

HOWEVER, BEFORE I PROCEED INTO THAT, I WANT TO STRESS SOMETHING THAT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO ME.

THIS IS MORE THAN AN ACADEMIC CURRICULUM.

IT'S ABOUT TEACHING LEADERSHIP, SOCIAL, AND MORAL VALUES TO THE NEXT-GENERATION THAT I BELIEVE ARE GOING TO BE WELL-TRAINED, WELL EDUCATED LEADERS OF THESE COMMUNITY.

ACADEMICS IS GREAT, BUT ALL OF THESE THINGS NEED TO COME ALONG AS WELL.

NOW WITH YOUR PERMISSION, I WILL GO OVER THE DATA.

THE FIRST THAT WE'RE GOING TO SEE IS YOUR SIXTH GRADE MATH.

WE HAD THESE STUDENTS AND THEY TOOK THEIR PRE AND POST-TEST.

AS YOU CAN SEE THOSE ARE THE NUMBERS, 95% OF THE STUDENTS MADE PROGRAM 81% INCREASE BETWEEN THEIR PRE AND POST.

THERE WAS A 27 POINT INCREASE BETWEEN PRE AND POST.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE ASK TO STRESS THAT WE ENCOURAGE OUR STUDENTS TO TAKE IS TO TAKE AT LEAST TWO ADVANCE CLASSES IN THE NEXT GRADE.

MOST OF THEM ARE DOING THAT.

ABOUT 88% OF OUR STUDENTS.

SEVENTH GRADE, THERE WERE 70 STUDENTS 14 STUDENTS TOOK THE PRE AND POST.

THEN THANK YOU TO THE ATTENTION OF ONE OUR CURRICULUM ADVISORS, THREE OF THOSE SEVENTH GRADERS WERE MOVED TO THE EIGHTH GRADE TO TAKE ALGEBRA BECAUSE THEY WERE WAY AHEAD.

SEVENTY-ONE PERCENT OF THOSE STUDENTS MADE PROGRESS, 10% INCREASE BETWEEN THEIR PRE AND POST TESTS.

THERE WAS A FIVE-POINT INCREASE BETWEEN PRE AND POST IN THE SEVENTH GRADE MATH.

ALGEBRA FOR EIGHT GRADERS, THERE WERE 13 STUDENTS WITH PRE AND POST-TEST DATA PRESENTED FOR ALGEBRA, 100% OF THE STUDENTS MAKE PROGRESS.

MS. ARANDA WHO LED THE 8TH GRADERS IS HERE WITH US.

SHE TEACHES AT BARWISE AND THERE WAS A 23% INCREASE BETWEEN THEIR PRE AND POST, NINE POINT INCREASE BETWEEN THEIR PRE AND POST.

THIS IS ALGEBRA. THEN WE HAVE A GEOMETRY CLASS AS WELL.

THERE WERE 80 STUDENT IS TAKING THAT AND THERE WAS 100% OF STUDENT PROGRESS, 10% INCREASE BETWEEN THEIR PRE AND POST AND THERE WAS A SIX-POINT INCREASE.

THOSE ARE THE STUDENTS THAT ARE GOING TOWARD HIGH SCHOOLS.

THE SAT MATH THAT WAS DONE BY DR. GUPTA, SHE'S A PROFESSOR AT THE MSU COLLEGE OF EDUCATION.

WE HAVE 24 STUDENTS WITH PRE AND POST DATA, 83% OF THEIR STUDENTS MADE PROGRESS, 11% INCREASE BETWEEN THEIR PRE AND POST-TEST.

THERE WAS A 42 POINT INCREASE BETWEEN THEIR PRE AND POST TEST IN THEIR SAT SCORE.

THAT IS SOMETHING THAT I AM VAIN ABOUT IT AND I KNOW LOTS OF THEM WERE SAYING, "DON'T TAKE THE SAT." I AM A FIRM BELIEVER ON THAT.

SOME OF OUR STUDENTS COME IN GREAT PROGRESS ON THAT.

THIS IS THE READING DATA.

WE HAVE MRS. BURKHAM, WHO WAS YOUR TEACHER OF THE YEAR FOR THE DISTRICT.

THE 90 STUDENTS TO THE PRE AND POST, 81% OF STUDENTS MADE PROGRESS, 32% INCREASE BETWEEN THEIR PRE AND POST-TEST.

THERE WAS A 12 POINT INCREASE BETWEEN THEIR PRE AND POST TEST SCORE.

SEVENTH-GRADE READING [INAUDIBLE] 17 STUDENTS TO THE PRE AND POST, 88% MADE PROGRESS, 47% INCREASE AND 11 POINTS INCREASE BETWEEN THEIR PRE AND POST.

THE 8TH GRADE WAS LED BY MR. BLACKWELL.

EIGHTEEN STUDENTS TOOK THE PRE AND POST-TEST DATA AND 89% OF STUDENTS MAKE PROGRESS, 16% BETWEEN THEIR PRE AND POST.

AVERAGE SCORE FOUR-POINT INCREASE.

THE SAT, READING PREP.

THERE WERE AGAIN, 24 STUDENTS THAT TOOK THEIR PRE AND POST-TEST, 83% OF THE STUDENTS MADE PROGRESS, 21% INCREASE BETWEEN THEIR PRE AND POST, AND NINE POINT INCREASE.

BEAR IN MIND THAT THOSE ARE PROBABLY THE FIRST TIME THESE STUDENTS WERE DOING THAT.

THE SAT LANGUAGE, WE HAD A 68% OF THE STUDENTS THAT MAKE PROGRESS, 6% INCREASE BETWEEN THEIR PRE AND POST THREE POINT INCREASE.

THIS IS SOMETHING THAT I DON'T WANT TO GO OVER.

I JUST WOULD LIKE FOR YOU TO TAKE THE TIME.

THESE ARE THE COMMENTS OF THE TEACHERS THAT WERE AMAZING.

I HOPE THAT YOU TAKE THE TIME BECAUSE ALL OF THESE TEACHERS WITH THEIR SECTION OF DR.

GUPTA ARE PART OF THE DISTRICT AND THERE IS A REASON THAT THEY KEEP COMING BACK WITH US IN THE SUMMER.

I TRULY APPRECIATE THEIR EFFORTS AND SUPPORT BECAUSE THEY ARE THE ONE WHO NEEDS THAT.

ALL I DO IS ORGANIZED AND ENSURE THAT THEIR STUDENTS ARE DOING WHAT THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE.

>> IT'S SIX WEEKS, IT'S THREE DAYS A WEEK.

>> TUESDAY, WEDNESDAYS, AND THURSDAYS FROM 9:00 AM-3:00 PM, BUT THE STUDENTS THEY START GETTING THERE AT 9:30, BECAUSE WE DO LEADERSHIP ACTIVITIES, PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES, AND THEY ALSO GET LUNCH AT THE MSU CAFETERIA.

>> THAT'S AWESOME, AND HOW ARE THE STUDENTS CHOSEN?

>> THE STUDENTS ARE CHOSEN, THEY HAVE TO DO CERTAIN THINGS DURING THE YEAR, LIKE BEHAVIORAL ISSUES, THAT IS COURSE.

BUT ALSO THE PARENTS HAVE TO SIGN A CONTRACT WITH US, SAYING THAT THEY ARE NOT GOING TO MISS.

BECAUSE A LOT OF TIME THERE IS VACATIONS AS YOU KNOW, AND THAT INTERFERES, SO I'M VERY BIG ON THAT, THAT THEY HAVE TO BE THERE.

ACTUALLY, WE STARTED WITH 86 AND I HAVE TO DISMISS THREE, BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T FOLLOW THE PROCEDURE.

BUT THAT IS SOMETHING THAT WE EXPECT FROM ANYONE.

IT'S A VERY DIVERSE GROUP, BUT THEY HAVE TO DO CERTAIN THINGS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.

>> AND HOW MANY YEARS HAVE YOU BEEN HELPING THIS SUMMER PROGRAM?

>> THE SUMMER PROGRAM SINCE 2014, AND WE STARTED WITH 20 STUDENTS, THE FIRST OFFICIAL YEAR AT VERNON COLLEGE, BUT THE YEAR BEFORE WE DID IT ON A CHURCH WITH 14 STUDENTS, MY WIFE AND I, AND SOME OF THAT STUDENTS ARE NOW IN COLLEGE, SO THAT WAS AMAZING.

AND ONCE AGAIN, THANK YOU, AND I JUST WANTED TO FINISH BY SAYING, IT IS IMPORTANT, I WANT TO SHARE WITH YOU THAT THE COST OF THE PROGRAM WAS ABOUT $45,000.

AND THE FUNDS WERE DONATED BY COMMUNITY FOUNDATIONS, LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS, AND COMMUNITY STAKEHOLDERS LIKE THE ROTARY CLUB AND I HAVE SOME OF THE MEMBERS RIGHT HERE, IF YOU CAN PLEASE RAISE YOUR HAND.

[APPLAUSE] SO IN THIS LAST ACADEMIC YEAR, WE SERVED 280 FAMILIES.

I DID THREE HIGH SCHOOLS AND THREE MIDDLE SCHOOLS.

THIS WAS DOWN FROM THE PREVIOUS ACADEMIC YEAR WHEN WE SERVED 355 FAMILIES, BUT THIS WAS DUE TO THE LACK OF FUNDS TO OFFER THE RTC SIX WEEK SESSIONS TO NEW FAMILIES AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL AND THE THREE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AS WE HAVE DONE IN PRIOR YEARS.

AND AS YOU KNOW, YOU GUYS WENT THROUGH TERRIBLE TIME LAST YEAR, AND SO DID OUR COMMUNITY.

I AM HOPEFUL THAT THIS YEAR WE CAN COUNT WITH ALL OF YOU AND YOUR SUPPORT AND WE HAVE DR. LEE, YOU HAVE BEEN AMAZING.

ONCE AGAIN, OFFER THE ROAD TO COLLEGE SIX WEEK SESSIONS ARE THE ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL BECAUSE THAT IS HUGE.

I STARTED FIFTH GRADE, BECAUSE DATA SHOWS THAT IF YOU DON'T DO CERTAIN THINGS TO YOUR STUDENTS BY SIXTH GRADE, THEIR CHANCES OF GOING THROUGH SECONDARY EDUCATION DIMINISHES, SO THAT IS WHY I'M HUGE AND IS VALUED IN FIFTH GRADE.

[BACKGROUND] THE PUBLIC COMMENT SEGMENT OF THE MEETING PROVIDE CITIZENS WITH AN OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK TO THE SCHOOL BOARD ABOUT ITEMS WHICH MAY OR MAY NOT BE ON THE AGENDA.

SPEAKERS WILL BE ALLOWED NO MORE THAN THREE MINUTES EACH, IF THERE ARE LARGE NUMBER OF PEOPLE THAT SIGNED UP FOR COMMENT, THAT CAN BE LOWERED.

AND I JUST WANTED TO STATE THAT I'M SO PROUD OF MR. ROBLES AND HIS WIFE AND THE THINGS THAT THEY'VE ACCOMPLISHED WITH THESE STUDENTS.

I REALLY BELIEVED THAT IN THE LAST FOUR YEARS THAT I HAVE BEEN THE PARTICIPANT IN ROAD TO COLLEGE COALITION THAT I ASSUME SO MANY STUDENTS CAN PROVE IT.

IT ALMOST BRINGS YOU TO TEARS WHAT THEY CAN PUT INTO A BOOK AND NOW THEY HAD HOPE.

AND I LOVE SEEING THAT I'M A BIG STICKLER FOR EDUCATION.

I WANT TO KNOW EVERYTHING, THE MORE I KNOW, THE MORE I CAN GIVE TO MY CHILDREN, AND I HAVE 11 GRANDS THAT HAVE COME IN TO THIS.

THERE'S GOING TO BE A FARMER, AND A FARMER, AND A FARMER, THEY'RE COMING.

AND I'M GLAD THAT WHAT THEY HAVE TO LOOK FORWARD TO IS NOT JUST FINISHING HIGH SCHOOL AND GO INTO LOOK FOR A JOB, THAT SOMEBODY IS MOTIVATING THEM TO KNOW WHAT A FAFSA IS.

TO HELP THEM PLAN THEIR COLLEGE EDUCATION, TO HELP THEM LEARN THE THINGS THAT THEY'RE NOT SURE, TO MENTOR, THERE ARE SO MANY MENTORS THAT YOU DON'T HAVE TO PAY FOR, ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS PICK UP A PHONE AND LET SOMEBODY KNOW.

IT'S MORE THAN JUST THE COMMUNITY, IT IS A FAMILY OF EDUCATORS FROM MOMS TO DADS TO AUNTS TO UNCLES TO GRANDMAS.

THESE KIDS ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO A BETTER EDUCATION AND THAT MAKES ME FEEL GOOD, AND THAT'S WHY I'M SO PROUD OF CAFE CON LECHE I'M PROUD OF MR. ROBLES I'M PROUD OF ALL THE TEACHERS THAT PARTICIPATED IN THIS, AND I WOULD JUST LIKE THE SUPPORT OF WICHITA FALLS INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT.

HELLO, MY NAME IS ELIZABETH BURKHAM.

I TEACH SIXTH GRADE ENGLISH AT BARWISE MIDDLE SCHOOL.

I'M HERE TO SUPPORT THE ROAD TO COLLEGE PROGRAM, I'VE BEEN BLESSED TO BE INCLUDED IN A SUMMER ASPECT OF THE PROGRAM FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS.

MANY STUDENTS THAT I TAUGHT THIS SUMMER, I ALSO HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF TEACHING DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR.

THE AMOUNT OF GROWTH EACH CHILD DEVELOPS OVER THE SIX-WEEK SUMMER DOUBLED THEIR GROWTH, SHOWN DURING THE ACADEMIC SCHOOL YEAR.

THE STUDENTS DEVELOP RELATIONSHIPS, DISCIPLINE, STUDY HABITS, ALSO RESPECT FOR GENDER, I GUESS, LIKE HE ENSURES THAT THE MEN BECOME GENTLEMEN, SO I REALLY LIKED THAT, AND HIGH EXPECTATIONS ON THEMSELVES.

I ALSO HAD MANY STUDENTS SAD WHEN THE PROGRAM WAS COMING TO AN END, BECAUSE THEY WOULD SHARE THAT THEY KNEW THEY WERE GETTING ONE HOT MEAL EVERYDAY HERE IN ROAD TO COLLEGE.

ROAD TO COLLEGE ALSO BENEFITS STUDENTS DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR, BECAUSE THEY KNOW MR. ROBLES HOLDS THEM TO HIGH STANDARDS AND THAT WE CAN CALL ON HIM AND THE MENTORS FOR SUPPORT IN ENSURING OUR STUDENTS ARE SUCCESSFUL.

IN CONCLUSION, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE ROAD TO COLLEGE PROGRAM BE SUPPORTED BY WFISD.

I WILL SAY DILLARD COLLEGE PROGRAM HAS REALLY BEEN A BLESSING.

THE REASON WHY I SAY NOT ONLY FOR MY KIDS, BUT FOR ME, BECAUSE I'M GOING BACK TO SCHOOL FOR EDUCATION.

THIS SUMMER, DURING THE DILLARD COLLEGE SUMMER PROGRAM WHILE KIDS WAS THERE, I WAS THERE.

HE HAS SOME OF THE MENTORS TO HER BECAUSE I WAS STRUGGLING IN COLLEGE ALGEBRA, SO I WAS LIKE, I NEED TO GET IT.

I PAYED FOR IT FOR IT NOT TO PASS THIS CLASS, SO I WAS STRESSED, BUT THEY SAID DON'T STRESS, JUST COME IN. WE GOT YOU.

I WAS LIKE, LORD, I PRAY [INAUDIBLE] BECAUSE IT'S STRESSFUL BEING A PARENT BUT ALSO HAVING TO RAISE KIDS.

WITH THIS PROGRAM IS A FAMILY.

WE'RE ALL IN IT TOGETHER.

IF ONE IS DOWN HERE, WE'RE ALL GOING TO BE THERE SO WE COULD GET THEM UP, SO I FEEL LIKE THIS PROGRAM IS BENEFICIAL FOR OUR KIDS BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE THEY JUST ADVANCE.

THEN I SAW THESE PARENTS WOULD HAVE NEVER THOUGHT THAT WOULD GO TO COLLEGE. IT'S A GREAT PROGRAM.

I COMMUNICATED WITH DR. LEE ABOUT THIS LAST YEAR AS WELL, AND HE STATED, HOPE YOU DON'T MIND ME QUOTING YOU.

I DON'T THINK THEY INTERFERE WITH THE INSTRUCTIONAL ENVIRONMENT AT ALL, IN FACT, THEY COULD ACTUALLY HELP BUILD RELATIONSHIPS [NOISE] WITH OUR STUDENTS.

I ABSOLUTELY AGREE WITH THAT.

ONE THING I KNOW FOR SURE IS MY STUDENTS ALWAYS LEAVE ME KNOWING MORE THAN THEY DID WHEN THEY SET FOOT IN MY CLASSROOM.

SOME PEOPLE BELIEVE THAT OUR TATTOOS SHOWING, DO NOT SHOW US A NEGATIVE LIGHT AS A ROLE MODEL FOR OUR STUDENTS.

I DO NOT FEEL THAT MY TATTOOS MAKE ME ANY LESS OF A ROLE MODEL.

BEING A ROLE MODEL HAS MORE TO DO WITH CHARACTER AND WHO YOU ARE US A PERSON, NOT WHAT YOU LOOK LIKE.

SOME OF THE MOST NOTORIOUS CRIMINALS WERE WELL-DRESSED WITH NOT TATTOOS INSIDE, YET THEY ARE NOT ROLE MODELS.

FOR MY OWN PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, MY STUDENTS PAY LESS ATTENTION TO MY TATTOOS WHEN THEY ARE NOT COVERED, THEN WHEN THEY DO WHEN THEY ARE COVERED.

ON THE SECOND DAY OF SCHOOL, WE DID AN ACTIVITY WHERE THEY HAD TO MAKE INFERENCES ABOUT ME BASED ON THINGS THEY CAN SEE AROUND MY ROOM BY LOOKING AT ME, MY ITUNES PLAYLIST, THINGS ON MY DESK AND PICTURES ON MY BULLETIN BOARD.

BASED ON MY TATTOOS, MY STUDENTS WERE ABLE TO INFER THAT I AM RELIGIOUS, MY MOTHER PASSED AWAY, AND I AM SENTIMENTAL [INAUDIBLE] I WILL LEAVE YOU WITH WORDS FOR PLAY RIGHT AND POLITICAL ACTIVIST GEORGE BERNARD SHAW.

I'VE BEEN A PART OF THIS PROGRAM AND PARTICIPATED IN CAFE CON LECHE EVENTS SINCE THE SIXTH GRADE.

THAT'S ALMOST 7 LONG AND TIRING YEARS THAT ACTUALLY GOES BY FASTER, MAY NOT FEEL, THE KIDS.

[INAUDIBLE] BUT NONETHELESS, BEING IN THIS PROGRAM FOR SO LONG HAS SHOWN ME THE IMPORTANCE OF THE ATTAINING EDUCATION AND HOW TO ACHIEVE IT.

IT SHOWING ME HOW TO MAKE CHALLENGING YET ATTAINABLE GOALS FOR MYSELF, AND I HAVE THE CAPABILITIES AND INTUITION.

I'VE ALSO BEEN VERY FORTUNATE TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS PAST SUMMER PROGRAM AS A MENTOR FOR THE YOUNGER STUDENTS.

THIS EXPERIENCE, ALLOWING ME TO SHARE MY OWN ADOLESCENT WISDOM, MASTER THE QUALITIES IT TAKES TO BE A RESPECTIVE LEADER, AND MAKE STRONG BONDS WITH PEOPLE I NEVER WOULD HAVE THOUGHT TWICE ABOUT IF NOT GIVEN THAT OPPORTUNITY.

EVEN BEYOND BEING AMAZING MENTORSHIP AND TUTORING SESSIONS THAT MR. WILLIS AND THIS PROGRAM PROVIDES, THIS PROGRAM HAS GIVEN ME THE ASSETS AND CONNECTIONS TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY OF BECOMING AN OFFICIAL [INAUDIBLE] MEMBER.

BUT SINCE, I WISH I WILL BE DOUBLE MAJORING IN PSYCHOLOGY AND SOCIOLOGY WITH A MINOR IN VOCAL PERFORMANCE OUTSIDE OF LEARNING THE VALUE OF HIGH EXPECTATIONS AND TIME MANAGEMENT SKILLS.

MR. OBLAS PERSONALLY HAS INSTILLED THE NEED VARIOUS LIFE SKILLS, RANGING FROM ACCEPTING MY OWN RESPONSIBILITIES, THE SIGNIFICANCE OF BEING INVOLVED IN MY OWN COMMUNITY, AND THE TRUE MEANING OF WHAT IT NEEDS TO BE HERD OF A FAMILY LARGER THAN YOU KNOW.

THIS PROGRAM OR ORGANIZATION HAS ENDLESS BENEFITS FOR ALL OF THOSE INVOLVED BECAUSE IT NOT ONLY FORGE OUT OPPORTUNITIES FOR NETWORKING AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF SOFT SKILLS, BUT IT ALSO TEACHES INVALUABLE LIFE LESSONS FOR ALL AGES AND TRULY SHOWS THE IMPORTANCE OF STAYING COMMITTED TO ONCE EDUCATION JOURNEY.

IN THEIR ENGLISH SHE WAS NOT GOOD AT IT. SHE WANT HELP.

SHE WAS EMBARRASSED BY IT, BUT SHE IMPROVED A LOT.

MY OTHER DAUGHTER, SHE WENT FROM A 63-100 IN ENGLISH.

SHE IMPROVED DRASTICALLY AND SHE'S VERY SMART AND SHE TAKES ALL ADVANCE CLASSES.

SHE HELPS TUTOR AS WELL.

SHE IS DOING REALLY GOOD IN IT AND SHE'S ONLY IMPROVED SINCE BEING IN THE ROAD TO COLLEGE PROGRAM.

THEY'VE DONE A LOT FOR THEM AND THEY'VE DONE A LOT FOR THIS COMMUNITY.

MY GIRLS ARE VOLUNTEERS AND PUT OUT THE FLAGS ON ANY HOLIDAY.

THEY ALSO VOLUNTARY PICK THEM UP.

BUT NOT ONLY DO THEY VOLUNTEER, SO DO MYSELF AND MY HUSBAND.

NOT ONLY ARE THEY INVOLVED IN THE COMMUNITY, NOW WE ARE BOTH IN THE COMMUNITY.

THE ROAD TO COLLEGE PROGRAM HAS DONE A DRASTIC CHANGE IN OUR FAMILY BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE WE'RE MORE INVOLVED IN OUR GIRLS LIVES.

A LOT OF US FOCUS JUST ON WORK.

BUT NOW WE'RE FOCUSING ON OUR GIRLS AND THEIR EDUCATION.

THIS IS SOMETHING THAT I WISHED WAS OFFERED TO ME WHEN I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL AT HIRSCHI.

SOMETHING THAT I COULD'VE GOTTEN THROUGH COLLEGE WITH BECAUSE I DID NOT GO TO COLLEGE.

I WENT FOR ONE YEAR TO KEMU UNIVERSITY.

I DID DROP OUT AND I STAY HOME AND RAISE MY GIRLS.

THEN FINALLY STARTED WORKING.

THIS WAS AN OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE MY TIME EASIER.

TO HAVE SOMEONE THAT'S COMPLETELY SUPPORTED ME IN APPLYING FOR COLLEGES BUT ALSO LEARNING MORE IF THINGS THAT I'M STRUGGLING WITH.

I AM A LITTLE EMBARRASSED, BUT ALSO PROUD TO SAY THAT IN MY SENIOR YEAR IS WHEN I FINALLY GOT THE HANG OF ENGLISH, AND AFTER THAT, I EXCELLED IN ANYTHING ENGLISH.

MY DAUGHTER VINA, WAS IN THE FIFTH GRADE AT SCOTLAND PARK ELEMENTARY WHEN SHE BROUGHT HOME AND OUTSTANDING THAT BOTH SHE AND WE, AS HER PARENTS, WERE CHOSEN TO PARTICIPATE.

SHE BECAUSE NOT ONLY WERE HER GRADES GREAT, BUT BECAUSE SHE WAS AN ALL AROUND GREAT KID.

BECAUSE SHE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO COMPLETE THE PROGRAM WITHOUT OUR HELP AND SUPPORT.

AS A PARENT HEARING THAT YOUR CHILD WAS CHOSEN FOR ROAD TO COLLEGE PROGRAM AT ALL WITHOUT KNOWING ANYTHING ABOUT IT, BUT THE NAME WAS STILL A PROUD MOMENT IN AND OF ITSELF.

WE WANT OUR KIDS TO REACH FOR THE STARS, I CAN GO THE DISTANCE AND WE TELL THEM THAT HARD WORK PAYS OFF, BUT IT'S A LITTLE DIFFICULT FOR A 10-11 YEAR OLD TO SEE THAT.

THEY GUESS THAT'S TRUE AND YES, I'M WORKING FOR MY FUTURE SELF EVEN NOW.

THEN THEY MET MR. ROBLES AND HIS MENTORS.

HIS AMAZING HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE AGE KIDS THAT HAD BEEN IN THE PROGRAM SINCE THEY TOO ARE IN GRADE SCHOOL.

THEY ACKNOWLEDGE AND PRAISE OUR KIDS FOR BEING THE TOP OF THEIR CLASSES AND BEING GOOD KIDS AND SAID TO THEM THAT IF YOU CAN DO IT NOW, YOU'RE ALL READY COLLEGE BOUND.

WE ARE GOING TO HELP YOU GET ALL THE WAY THERE.

HOW COULD THEY HELP? BY BEING WITH THEM AND SUPPORTING THEM EVERY SINGLE YEAR FROM FIFTH GRADE UNTIL THEY GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL AND WENT TO COLLEGE.

FOR SOME WHO EVEN RETURN FROM COLLEGE, IF THEY WERE CLOSE TO HOME.

WHEN THEY GOT TO HIGH SCHOOL, THEY WOULD GET THE CHANCE TO HELP KIDS LIKE THEM THAT THEY WERE JUST LIKE THEM NOW.

>> THE T-TESS IS THE EVALUATION SYSTEM FOR EDUCATORS AND EVERYBODY THAT IS IN GREEN, THEY ARE ABLE BECAUSE THEY HAVE COMPLETED THE AEL AND THE T-TESS TRAINING THROUGH REGION 9 AND THEN PASS THE CERTIFICATION EXAM [NOISE] THROUGH THE TEXAS TEACHERS ORGANIZATION.

THEN THEY ARE CERTIFIED T-TESS APPRAISERS SO THEY CAN GO IN AND OBSERVE THEIR TEACHERS AND THEN GIVES THEM THEIR RATINGS AND THEIR DIMENSIONS, WHETHER IT'D MEAN COEFFICIENT, ACCOMPLISHED, DISTINGUISHED, NEEDS IMPROVEMENT, THOSE AREAS.

EVERYONE, AGAIN THAT IS IN GREEN IS ABLE TO DO T-TESS.

THE REASON WHY THERE ARE THOSE OF US WHO MIGHT NOT BE ON CAMPUS BUT ARE HERE AT THE H CENTER, IS BECAUSE TEACHERS DO HAVE THE RIGHT TO REQUEST A SECOND EVALUATION IF THEY ARE NOT PLEASED WITH OR HAPPY WITH THE FIRST EVALUATION.

THOSE OF US HERE AT THE EDUCATION CENTER ARE ABLE TO GO OUT ON A CAMPUS TO PREVENT ANY KIND OF BIAS THAT MIGHT BE BETWEEN A PRINCIPAL WHO MIGHT HAVE HAD CONVERSATIONS WHERE THEY ARE TO PROVIDE AN OUTSIDE EVALUATOR FOR THE CAMPUS LEVEL FOR ED TEACHERS.
